Ever since Minecraft was released, players have often faced an annoying dilemma while exploring the Overworld. It was always about choosing between changing your spawn point and dealing with nighttime monsters and Phantoms. However, the upcoming Minecraft 26.3 update is going to solve this problem by introducing Straw Beds. In this guide, we will show you everything you need to know about how to make straw beds in Minecraft and what are all of their uses in the game.

Items Required to Make a Straw Bed in Minecraft

Crafting a Minecraft Straw Bed is surprisingly simple and doesn’t require any rare resources. Instead of collecting wool from sheep as required while making a normal bed in Minecraft, you just need some Hay Bales or just a ton of wheat to start the process. So, here is everything you need in order to make a Straw Bed in Minecraft:

ItemAmountWhere to Get

Hay Bale
3xCraft Hay Bales using Wheat or get them from villages

Hay Bales can be crafted by filling the crafting grid with 9 Wheat. It becomes much easier to craft Hay Bales when you have a wheat farm in Minecraft. Alternatively, you can find them naturally spawning in the villages, especially around the animal pens or the horse stables. You can easily break the Hay Bales with your hand and pick them up. Other than the Hay Bales, you will need the Crafting Table to put them together.

Where to Find Straw Beds in Minecraft Naturally

If you don’t feel like crafting Straw Beds in Minecraft with all the ingredients, you can get them naturally as well. The Straw Beds generate naturally inside the brand new Abandoned Camp structure of the Minecraft 26.3 update.

These camps are specifically designed for a temporary base while exploring the Overworld. Now, adding the Straw Beds in these areas further makes exploring them rewarding and more immersive. Since you’re already exploring them, make sure that you also check the special Abandoned Camp inside the Minecraft Dappled Forest biome.

How to Use Straw Beds in Minecraft

Now that you know how to make a Straw Bed in Minecraft, it’s time to learn how this feature works. It’s exactly like sleeping in a normal bed, but it comes with a major difference.

Simply place the Straw Bed on the ground and interact with it at night or during a thunderstorm to sleep. Sleeping on a Straw Bed allows players to skip the dangerous nighttime hours just like you would with a regular bed.

However, instead of updating your spawn point, the Straw Bed leaves your existing respawn location unchanged. Moreover, once you wake up or even leave the bed before morning, the Straw Bed immediately breaks and disappears. It doesn’t drop as an item, so every Straw Bed is consumable and can be used once.

Do note that the villagers cannot use a Straw Bed as an alternative to the usual ones for sleeping. One similarity shared by the Straw Bed with the normal one is that interacting with them inside the Nether dimension makes them explode.

So, if you’re on a long expedition to explore the rare biomes in some of the best Minecraft seeds, consider having some Straw Beds in your inventory. So, what are your thoughts on this new feature? Let us know in the comments below.
