How to Get Sulfur in Minecraft

Sulfur is a brand-new, vibrant block introduced in the Minecraft Cubed Chaos update. This isn’t just another decorative block tossed into the underground world for aesthetics. Rather, the Sulfur blocks open up many creative possibilities with intricate brick designs in your builds. So, if you are looking to expand the scope of your building blocks, learn how to get Sulfur in Minecraft in this guide.

How to Obtain Sulfur Blocks in Minecraft

Sulfur primarily generates in the latest cave biome in Minecraft called the Sulfur Caves. These are somewhat similar to the Dripstone and Lush Caves, and you often get a few hints on how to locate them. Mostly, the Sulfur Caves are found underground, nestled among the stone layers, and can be recognized from afar because of the bright yellow Sulfur and red Cinnabar blocks.

With the rollout of the Minecraft Chaos Cubed update, here are the best methods to locate Sulfur Caves and get the Sulfur block:

  • Dig Down from Sulfur Springs: Sulfur Springs occur naturally on the Overworld surface, and they are made up of Sulfur and Magma blocks. You can mine here to get Sulfur, and also dig down directly to find the Sulfur Caves for more such blocks.
  • Explore Minecraft Caves: Find a cave opening in the Minecraft world, and explore deeper to find the Sulfur Caves. They often have Sulfur Pools emitting toxic gases, with water having a hint of green color.
  • Use Commands and Game Cheats: Lastly, you can use the /locate command to find the coordinates of a Sulfur Cave and then use the /tp command to teleport in Minecraft.

You won’t always get lucky on your first try exploring the caves, or you might stumble upon a small Sulfur Pool rather than a biome full of blocks. Moreover, Sulfur doesn’t just generate by itself. The presence of red colored Cinnabar blocks is a strong indication that a Sulfur Cave is nearby.

Once you find the new biome, mining the Sulfur block is easy. Using any pickaxe, Wood or higher, to mine the block. Using your hand to break the block drops nothing and a pickaxe enchanted with Fortune also does not affect the drop amount.

How to Use the Sulfur Block in Minecraft

Now that you have the Sulfur blocks, you can use them to craft a variety of other blocks from the Sulfur family and use them to feed the Sulfur Cube mob from the upcoming Minecraft Chaos Cubed update. So, here are the uses of Sulfur in Minecraft:

Craft Decorative Blocks

You can use the Sulfur block to craft Polished Sulfur, slabs, stairs, walls, Chiseled and Potent Sulfur blocks. These variants can allow you to make some of the best Minecraft house ideas. Here’s how to craft each of them:

  • Polished Sulfur: Place 4 Sulfur blocks together in a square on the crafting table to get 4 Polished Sulfur blocks.
  • Sulfur Slab: Place 3 Sulfur blocks on the bottom row of the crafting table to get 6 slabs.
  • Sulfur Stairs: Place 6 Sulfur blocks on the left row, bottom row, and at the center to get 4 stairs.
  • Sulfur Wall: Place 6 Sulfur blocks in the bottom two rows of a crafting table to get 6 walls.

Feed the Sulfur Cube

You can also feed the Sulfur block to the Sulfur Cube to grant them the Regular archetype. The Sulfur Cubes will then start behaving like a football and gain a medium speed, medium bounciness, medium ground friction, and a low air drag. It also becomes buoyant in nature and can float when dropped on any water body.
