In fact, it is more powerful than a Netherite sword in Minecraft Java edition and as good as an iron sword in the Bedrock edition.
What is a Diamond Axe Used For?
A diamond axe has the following uses in Minecraft:
- Its primary purpose is to break logs, wood, and stem blocks. No other tool can break wood and its derivatives as fast as this axe.
- You can use a diamond axe to strip blocks. You can remove the top layer of logs and woodblock to give them a new texture. Similarly, you can use this axe to strip a layer of wax from copper blocks.
- As a weapon, you can use the diamond axe to kill mobs much faster and more easily than with a sword in certain situations.
How to Get a Diamond Axe
Unlike other diamond tools, the diamond axe doesn’t spawn naturally within any chest in the Minecraft world. Moreover, you can’t even get this axe as a drop by killing mobs. The best you can expect is a golden axe that Piglin brutes drop, but that too happens rarely. The only option you have is trading with expert-level toolsmith villagers, and they can sell you an enchanted diamond axe for 13 emeralds. But unfortunately, that only works in the Bedrock edition.
So, with limited options, the best way to get a diamond axe in Minecraft is to craft it. But if you don’t mind cheating in-game, then we might have another solution at hand.

Items Required to Make a Diamond Axe
You need the following items to make a diamond axe:
- 3 Diamonds
- 2 Sticks
- Crafting Table
As shown in the screenshot below, you can craft sticks by placing two planks next to each other vertically in the crafting area. The crafting recipe of every common tool in Minecraft requires sticks. Next, to obtain diamonds, you first need to make an iron pickaxe. If you mine diamonds using any weaker pickaxe or the wrong tool, its ore drops nothing and disappears.
How to Make an Iron Pickaxe

Next, to make an iron pickaxe, first place three iron ingots in the topmost row of the crafting area. Then, place a stick in each middle cell of the second and third row.
Find Diamonds in Minecraft

With sticks and diamonds in your inventory, you can easily craft a diamond axe in no time. Follow the steps below to make a diamond axe:
1. First, place diamonds in the first two cells of the first row of the crafting area.
2. Then, put a stick in the middle cell of the second and third row of the crafting area.
3. Finally, to finish the recipe, place a diamond in the first cell of the second row of the crafting area. And voila, your diamond axe is ready! You can drag it into your inventory and start using it.
Best Enchantments for an Axe in Minecraft
You can use the following enchantments to make your diamond axe even more effective:
- Fortune III: It increases dropped items when a block is dropped.
- Efficiency V: It improves the speed by which a block gets broken.
- Mending: With this enchantment enabled, the diamond axe repairs itself by collecting XP.
