In Short
  • Control Resonant's main campaign will take around 30 hours to complete.
  • Completionists should be able to 100% Control Resonant within 50 hours, or around that ballpark.
  • Control Resonant's runtime is roughly double the original Control, which took 12–15 hours to complete.

Remedy Entertainment is gearing up for another mind-bending adventure with Control Resonant, all set to debut on September 24, 2026. With pre-orders already live for Control Resonant, fans are itching for more details on the melee-focused sequel. Fortunately, Remedy has confirmed how long it takes to beat Control Resonant for both casual players and completionists.

Control Resonant Gameplay Length and Total Hours

Control Resonant’s lead gameplay designer, Sergei Mohov, has confirmed in an interview online that the “core experience” or the main story will take around 30 hours to complete. Thomas Puha, Remedy’s communications director, also rolled credits at 35 hours, as he noted in an X post.

On the other hand, completionists can expect a runtime within the 50-hour ballpark. For reference, the original Control’s main story took about 12 to 15 hours to beat, so Resonant is all set to double its runtime.

There are quite a few reasons for this. First off, Control Resonant features large districts and expansive Zones with open-ended exploration at the heart of a paranaturally altered Manhattan. Secondly, the title shifts to hack-and-slash combat with RPG elements, featuring a variety of weapon types and skills to choose from.

Unlike Jesse’s Service Weapon in the first Control, Dylan’s weapon and combat are far more complex and varied. So, naturally, it’ll take longer to beat Control: Resonant, unlike Remedy’s original title.

This greater focus on fast-paced combat and exploration proves that Remedy’s ambitious sequel won’t be a quick game to cover. You can expect to beat Control: Resonant in 30-35 hours if you focus on the main campaign with little exploration.

In fact, PlayStation players can complete the game earlier, thanks to Resonant’s 48-hour early access. However, depending on how you fare in the boss fights, it could take you longer to beat Control: Resonant

Story TypeTime to Beat
Main Story30 hours
Main Story + Mild Exploration35 hours
Completionist45-50 hours

On the discussion of whether you need to play the original Control, Mohov says you don’t: “I don’t think you have to play the first Control game to play Resonant, but if you do, it will enrich your experience, especially narratively.

If you need a recap before jumping in, the lead gameplay designer has confirmed that a recap of Control will be available before you kick off Control Resonant.
