How to Disable Duplicate Notifications on Google Pixel

In Short
  • With Android, Google offers an easy way to eliminate duplicate notifications on Pixel phones.
  • You can disable duplicate notifications inside Settings > Notifications > Dismiss notifications across Pixel devices.
  • If you're getting duplicate notification on the same device, you can turn off specific Notification categories for an app.

If you use two or more Pixels with the same set of apps signed in to the same account, you may have an issue receiving redundant notifications. However, Google has a workaround for that on Pixel devices, when you can customize alerts in such a way that dismissing the notification on one Google Pixel phone will also dismiss it on another device, let’s say, a Pixel Tablet. Duplicate notifications can be annoying, so here’s how to use the feature to disable duplicate notifications on Google Pixel.

How to Turn Off Multiple Notifications on Google Pixel

If you’re getting duplicate notifications, in the sense that notifications carrying a similar theme are being pushed by apps, you can choose to block them. This is all thanks to the Notification Channels feature on Android. Here’s how you can use it.

  1. If the unwanted notification is currently active, long-press it and tap on the cogwheel icon on the right.
  2. This will take you to all notification channels of the app. Here, turn off the toggles for unwanted notifications across multiple categories.

  1. If you don’t want to turn off notifications from a category completely, you can customize them by tapping on the category and toggling the options inside it.
  2. For example, if I want the notifications from a channel to arrive while being minimized, I’ll toggle on the Minimize option.

Say you were using a new Pixel for a while and go back to the older one, your phone would ring with all the pending notifications accumulated over several weeks. Not anymore. Google has recently solved it by auto-rejecting app notifications that are over 14 days old.

Besides, the Notification Cooldown feature is also your best friend. In case you receive multiple/duplicate notifications from apps at once, Android will suppress them. So, the notification chime won’t play for all the subsequent notifications.

And that’s how you can disable duplicate notifications on Google Pixel. Have you ever had moments where you’ve felt that Android has a poor way of managing notifications? Let us know in the comments.
