Honkai Star Rail Yunli: Best Build, Kit, and Relics

In Short
  • Yunli is a 5-star Destruction character in Honkai Star Rail with Physical Damage type and her kit is a hybrid of Tank and DPS.
  • The 4-piece The Ashblazing Grand Duke and 2-piece Duna, Dynasty of Running Wolves are her best Relics and Planar Ornaments.
  • The best team comp for Yunli is Yunli (DPS), Robin (Support), Topaz (Support), and Aventurine (Sustain).

Yunli is the 5-star character being added in the Honkai Star Rail 2.4 version, and her kit is completely counterattack-focused. She is a mixture of Tank and DPS, having very similar abilities to Clara, the standard banner 5-star Physical Destruction character. Yunli is a very strong hypercarry unit and she is also quite versatile with her Teams, Light Cones, and Relics. If you are planning to get Yunli, or already have pulled her, here is a complete guide for the best Yunli build.

Yunli is a 5-star Destruction character with the Physical Damage type and she acts as both a Tank and DPS. Her kit is focused on Counter Attacks, which are also considered Follow-up attacks, and she is very similar to Clara.

When it comes to her Lore and Backstory, she is a Sword Hunter from the Xianzhou Zhuming and the darling granddaughter of General Huaiyan — The Flaming Heart. She has practiced swordsmanship and forging from Huaiyan since a young age, becoming the second-youngest prodigy swordmaster of the Flamewheel Octet. She has an intense hatred for cursed swords and has vowed to hunt down and wipe out all cursed swords in existence. Yunli is described as frank and straightforward.

Honkai Star Rail Yunli Kit and Best Cycle Rotation

  • Galespin Summersault (Basic Attack): She attacks a single target and deals Physical Damage equal to 100% of her Attack.
  • Bladeborne Quake (Skill): She restores HP equal to 30% of her Attack plus 200 and deals Blast Damage equal to 120% of her Attack the main target and 60% to adjacent targets.
  • Earthbind, Etherbreak (Ultimate): She consumes 120 Energy and enters the Parry state, taunting all enemies, lasting until the end of the next ally’s or enemy’s turn. Additionally, it increases 100% Crit Damage dealt by Yunli’s next counter. When her Talent’s counter is triggered, she launches ‘Intuit: Cull’ instead and exits the Parry state. If the counter is not triggered during the parry state, Yunli immediately launches her counter ‘Intuit: Slash’ on a random enemy.
Intuit Slash: Yunli does a blast attack dealing 220% of her Attack to the main target and 110% of her Attack to adjacent targets.
Intuit Cull: She does a blast attack dealing 220% of her Attack to the main target and 110% of her Attack to adjacent targets. Additionally, deals 6 instances of Physical Damage equal to 72% of Yunli’s Attack to a random single enemy.
  • Flashforge (Talent): When an enemy target attacks Yunli, she additionally restores 15 Energy and immediately launches a Blast Counter on the attacker, dealing Physical Damage equal to 150% of her Attack on the main target and 75% of her Attack on adjacent targets.
  • Posterior Precedence (Technique): Yunli gets the Ward effect for 20 seconds, which allows her to cast Intuit: Cull on a random enemy with 80% increased damage by the attack, after entering battle by either getting attacked or attacking an enemy.

Yunli’s kit resembles Clara’s, with similar best builds, almost following the same playstyle with few differences. Her kit is completely focused on Follow-up Counter Attacks, and her Ultimate is the majority of the damage output from her kit. Yunli’s Ultimate sends her into a Parry state, taunting all enemies until her ally’s or enemy’s next turn. When attacked in the Parry state, she unleashes the Intuit: Cull counterattack, which deals Blast Physical damage and 6 additional damage instances on one Random target, a bit similar to Argenti’s enhanced Ultimate.

If she doesn’t get attacked during her Parry state, she immediately launches her counterattack Intuit: Slash on a random enemy, which deals only the Blast Physical damage. The main difference between Yunli and Clara is that — Yunli can self-heal with her Skill and her normal counterattacks deal Blast damage.

Yunli’s ideal cycle rotations depend on her Ultimate usage. Make sure Yunli gets hit as often as possible, as her Counterattacks also generate Energy for her Ultimate. Until you have her Ultimate charged, use her Skill to self-heal and continue dealing blast damage.

Best Yunli Relics in HSR

  • Ashblazing Grand Duke (4-piece)
  • Wind-Soaring Valorous (4-piece)
  • Champion of Streetwise Boxing (4-piece)

The 4-piece Ashblazing Grand Duke is the best Relic set for Yunli, although it isn’t far behind her best alternative. This relic set gives a good increase to her Follow-up attack damage and further increases her Attack by 6% (max 8 stacks) with each Follow-up attack, lasting for 3 turns.

Alternatively, the 4-piece Wind-Soaring Valorous is also a great option for Yunli, increasing her Attack% and Crit Rate. This relic set also increases her Ultimate’s damage by 30%, for 1 turn, after using a Follow-up attack.

Another decent option can be the 4-piece Champion of Streetwise Boxing, however, this is the weakest set for her compared to the other two mentioned above and not suited for Yunli’s best build.

Best Planar Ornaments for Yunli in HSR

  • Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves (2-piece)
  • Inert Salsotto (2-piece)

Both Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves and Inert Salsotto are great Planar Ornaments for the best Yunli build in Honkai Star Rail.

The Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves set increases damage dealt by 5% with each Follow-up attack (max 5 stacks) and further increases the wearers’ Crit Damage by 25% at complete 5 stacks.

Inert Salsotto on the other hand increases the wearer’s Crit Rate by 8% and further increases the wearer’s Ultimate and follow-up attack DMG by 15% when the wearer’s Crit Rate is 50% or higher. Sadly, the damage increases buff of the Ultimate and Follow-up attack doesn’t stack for Yunli, even though her Ultimate does a Follow-up attack.

Main and Sub Stats for Yunli

Yunli Main and Sub Stats for her Relics and Planar Ornaments

When it comes to Yunli’s main Relic and Planar Ornament stats, use a Crit Rate Body as she already gets a 100% Crit Damage boost after using her Ultimate, Attack % Feet, Physical Damage % Planar Sphere, and Attack or ERR% Link Rope.

For Sub stats, focus on reaching 100% Crit Rate. Maximizing the Crit Rate on Yunli will allow her to do consistent high damaging counterattacks. Other than that, focus on Crit Damage and Attack %, followed by Speed or HP%.

Best Light Cones for Yunli Build in HSR

Image Courtesy: Genshin Impact (Edited by Sanmay Chakrabarti)
  • Dance at Sunset
  • On the Fall of an Aeon (S5)
  • Something Irreplaceable
  • A Secret Vow
  • Nowhere to Run
  • Under the Blue Sky

The Dance at Sunset is the best Light Cone for the best Yunli build, and it is also her Signature Light Cone. This Light Cone greatly increases the odds of the wearer getting attacked, which is great for Yunli as she lacks Aggro-increasing abilities other than her Ultimate for that one attack. This Light Cone further increases Crit Damage by 36% and additionally increases Follow-up Attack damage by 36% (max 2 stacks) after using their Ultimate.

Besides her Signature Light Cone, On the Fall of an Aeon at Superimposition 5 is both the best Alternative and F2P option for Yunli. This Light Cone at S5 is very close to her Signature Light Cone, only lacking the Aggro increasing capability. Alternatively, Clara’s Signature Light Cone is also a good option for Yunli.

For 4-star Light Cone options, A Secret Vow, Nowhere to Run, and Under the Blue Sky are all good options for Yunli.

HSR Yunli Eidolons

  • Weathered Blade Does Not Sully (E1): Damage dealt by Intuit: Slash and Intuit: Cult is increased by 20%. Increases the number of additional Damage instances for Intuit: Cull by 3.
  • First Luster Breaks Dawn (E2): Ignores 20% of enemy Defenses when dealing damage via Counter.
  • Mastlength Twirls Mountweight (E3): Ultimate Level + 2, up to Level 15 max, Basic Attack Level + 1, up to Level 10 max.
  • Artisan’s Ironsong (E4): Increases Yunli’s Effect Resistance by 50% for 1 turn after launching Intuit: Slash or Intuit: Cult.
  • Blade of Old Outlasts All (E5): Skill Level + 2, up to Level 15 max, Talent Level + 2, up to Level 15 max.
  • Walk in Blade, Talk in Zither (E6): While Parry is active, if an enemy actively uses their abilities, regardless of whether it attacks Yunli or not, it will trigger Intuit: Cull and remove the Parry effect. When dealing DMG via Intuit: Slash or Intuit: Cull, increases CRIT Rate by 15% and Physical RES PEN by 20%.

Yunli’s Eidolons are not particularly impressive, with only her E1 and E2 increasing her damage by around 20% each. The next big upgrade is her E6, which is clearly not worth it for Yunli. Compared to her Eidolons, Yunli’s signature light cone is much more important and should take priority ahead of her E1.

At the end of the day, Yunli is self-sufficient to clear the hardest challenges in the game without her Eidolons. Yunli’s best build is not dependent on her Eidolons.

Yunli Traces and Ascension Abilities in HSR

Ascension Abilities:

  • Fiery Wheel (A2): Intuit: Slash is replaced with Intuit: Cull, after each use of Intuit: Slash.
  • Demon Quell (A4): While in the Parry state, resists Crowd Control debuffs received and reduces DMG received by 20%.
  • True Sunder (A6): Increases Yunli’s Attack by 30% when using her Counter, lasting for 1 turn.

Stat Boosts:

  • HP Boost: 18%
  • Attack Boost: 28%
  • Crit Rate Boost: 6.7%

Best Team for Yunli in Honkai Star Rail

F2PYunliAstaTingyunLynx
Best Teams for Yunli

Yunli is predominantly a hyper-carry unit and she is best paired with amplifying support characters. Yunli’s best team would feature Robin, Topaz, and Aventurine.

Robin is a clear favorite among amplifiers when it comes to buffing Follow-up attack-focused DPS units. The extra physical damage with her Ultimate would also benefit Yunli a lot. Topaz is another favorite for increasing Follow-up attack damage and Aventurine is easily able to keep the team protected with his shields while doing Follow-up attack damage himself.

Other than that, you can also use Sparkle and Tingyun as support units, or nihility units like Pela and Silver Wolf. For Sustains, Fu Xuan and Lynx are both good options, with Lynx being able to increase Aggro on Yunli.

Should You Pull Yunli in Honkai Star Rail

Yunli is a strong hypercarry DPS and I personally love the counter-attack playstyle. Yes, she is worth pulling but only if you don’t have Clara already. If you already have Clara, then it makes no sense to go after Yunli as both of them have almost the same kit, with Yunli only being slightly better than Clara (unless you have Clara E6). Still, Clara is well-equipped to clear the hardest challenges in the game and is very close to Yunli in terms of damage output.

But, the decision is still up to you. Yunli is a great character, and her playstyle is super fun. If you have any further questions about Yunli’s best build, ask us in the comment section and we will try to help you out.
