Is Durin Worth Pulling? Pros and Cons

Durin is one of the strongest Pyro sub-DPS in the game, being on par with Mavuika in many ways. His elemental burst applies Pyro on enemies repeatedly for a period of time. Any pyro-related reaction that triggers with Durin on the team also leads to the enemies having reduced Pyro and the pairing element resistance.

ProsCons
Strong off-field sub-DPSHighly dependent on Elemental Burst
Easy to play
Reduces the elemental resistance of enemies
Can fit into most teams

Being an off-field character, Durin is extremely easy to play and greatly boosts your team’s damage. He also synergizes well with many different teams, making him the perfect off-field pyro support to pick for most challenges. I consider Durin a must-pull if you already don’t have Mavuika.

Durin’s C1 vs Signature Weapon: Which to Get?

Both Durin’s C1 and signature weapon are good, but one is clearly better than the other. Durin’s C1 gives a massive DMG buff to all allies based on the Enlightenment stacks, also making it easier to collect. Compared to that, his signature Light Cone only gives 6% ATK buff to all allies. However, his weapon also increases his Elemental Burst damage, which is pretty good.

But in the end, I recommend Durin’s C1 over his signature weapon. The overall team damage increase from his C1 is too good to be overlooked.

Best Genshin Impact Durin Build

Durin’s best build is very simple. Your main goal should be to play Durin as an off-field sub-DPS, focusing only on maximizing his damage output. First, his signature weapon, Athame Artis, is a clear favorite for his best weapon. Next, the Noblesse Oblige increases elemental burst damage, also making it perfect for Durin. Finally, focus on getting ATK, Crit, and EM on Durin to maximize his off-field damage.

If you want a bit more build variety, then check out the following sections. Here you will find the best options for Durin’s weapon, artifacts, and stats.

Best Durin Weapons

As mentioned earlier, Athame Artis is clearly the best weapon for Durin in Genshin Impact. However, other 5-star swords are also good for him. For example, Primordial Jade Cutter, Mistsplitter Reforged, and Absolum are not far away in damage output compared to his signature weapon.

NameRarityValue
Athame Artis5-StarBest
Primordial Jade Cutter5-starGreat
Mistsplitter Reforged5-starGreat
Absolution5-starGreat
Wolf-Fang4-starGreat
Moonweaver’s Dawn4-starGood
Harbinger of Dawn3-starDecent

Other than 5-star options, the R5 Wolf-Fang is the best 4-star weapon for Durin. If you have this weapon at refinement 5, then it can even be better than some of the 5-star weapons mentioned above. Other than that, Moonweaver’s Dawn is another fantastic weapon you can use. This weapon features on the banner, but can also be obtained for free by finishing the ‘Echoes of the Unfinished Path‘ quest in Genshin Impact.

Finally, the 3-star weapon Harbinger of Dawn can also be a good option at refinement 5 for an off-field sub-DPS like Durin. This weapon provides a decent Crit Rate increase, making it one of the best F2P weapons for Durin.

Best Durin Artifacts

For Durin’s artifacts, you can either pick a set that either increases his Elemental Burst damage or his Pyro DMG and ATK. This is why the 4-piece Noblese Oblige is the best artifact for Durin. It not only increases the Elemental Burst DMG, but also buffs the ATK of all allies.

NameValue
4-piece Noblesse ObligeBest
4-piece Emblem of Severed FateGreat
2-piece Noblesse Oblige and 2-piece Crimson Witch of FlamesGood

However, if you already have someone with Noblesse Oblige in the team, then you should use the Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set instead. Other than that, you can always use a 2-piece split of Noblese Oblige to get an increase to his Burst and Pyro DMG.

Best Stats for Durin

The first stat you must prioritize is ATK. Get 2500 ATK on Durin to get the full extent of his passive. Next, build as much EM as possible to increase his damage out. Other than that, Crit Rate and DMG are also good for increasing the overall damage.

StatRecommended ValuePriority
ATK2500Highest
EMAs much as possibleHigh
Crit Rate / DMG70% / 140%Medium
ERREnough to burst every rotationLow

Finally, you can also build some ERR for Durin in teams with no other Pyro characters. Durin has a fast energy recharge, but he does absolutely no damage without his Elemental Burst. So, you need Durin to use his Burst every rotation to get the maximum output from his kit.

Best Durin Teams in Genshin Impact

With Durin’s best build explained, now it is time to look at his best teams, and there are a ton of options to pick from. Durin is one of the most versatile characters in the game, fitting comfortably in most teams that use the Pyro element. Here are the best teams for Durin in Genshin Impact.

Durin Overload Team

Overload teams benefit greatly from Durin’s presence. Alongside Fischl and Chevreus, you can have Clorinde or Raiden Shogun as main DPS to deal a ton of damage. Even Klee and Razor have become decent enough with the Genshin Impact old character buffs that they can also be a good main DPS for Durin Overload teams.

Genshin Impact Durin Kit: Talents and Constellations

Durin’s kit makes him a strong off-field Pyro and support player. Here is a quick view of everything about Durin’s kit, including his kit rotation, explanation, talents, and constellations.

Genshin Impact Durin Kit Rotation

Durin’s entire kit is based on his two dragon transformations. You have to first use Durin’s skill to enter the enhanced state. Next, depending on whether you use his Skill or Normal ATK, Durin either takes the Light Form or Dark Form.

Skill > Skill or Normal ATK > Burst > Swap > Repeat

In Light Mode, his Burst will do AoE damage, while in Dark Mode, it will do stronger single-target damage. Depending on the situation, you have to pick the form you want to transform into. Next, use Durin’s Elemental Burst and then swap to your next character in the rotation. Repeat this sequence every rotation, and you are good to go.

Genshin Impact Durin Kit Explanation

  • Durin’s multiple forms: Durin has multiple forms that unlock different ability effects. After using his Elemental Skill, Durin enters an enhanced state that changes his Elemental Skill and Normal attack. In his enhanced state, using his Elemental Skill makes him enter the Confirmation of Purity state, and using his Normal Attack makes him enter the Denial of Darkness state. Both these states allow different applications for his Burst.
  • Durin’s Burst: Durin’s Elemental Burst also works differently based on his current form. In both forms, Durin deals consecutive instances of AoE Pyro damage in front of him. The differences come after, in the Purity state, Durin summons a white dragon that deals periodic Pyro damage and follows the on-field character, while in his Darkness state, he summons a dark dragon that does essentially the same thing. Both of these dragons have additional effects that are based on their passives.
    • White Dragon summon: When triggering Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize reactions on an opponent, it reduces Pyro and the corresponding elements’ resistances on enemies by 20%.
    • Dark Dragon summon: Increases Vaporize and Melt damage for Durin by 40%.
  • Hexenzirkel Dependency: After becoming a Magic character, Durin will increase the effects of his passive that reduces Elemental resistance and increases his Vaporize and Melt damage when he also has two other magic characters in the team.

Genshin Impact Durin Talent and Constellations

If you prefer to look at the exact kit of Durin, then here are his Talents and Constellations:

Talent and ConstellationsDetails
Radiant Wingslash
(Normal Attack)
Normal Attack: Performs up to 4 consecutive sword strikes.
Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to perform a slash toward the front.
Plunging Attack: Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.
Binary Form: Convergence and Division
(Elemental Skill)
Purify the substance of souls and wishes to undergo Essential Transmutation. While transmuted, Durin’s Elemental Skill Binary Form: Convergence and Division will be replaced with the special Elemental Skill Transmutation: Confirmation of Purity, and the Normal Attack Radiant Wingslash will be replaced with the special Elemental Skill Transmutation: Denial of Darkness.

Transmutation: Confirmation of Purity: Deal 1 instance of AoE Pyro DMG to nearby opponents, reverse Essential Transmutation, and enter the Confirmation of Purity state for 30s.

Transmutation: Denial of Darkness: Deal 3 consecutive instances of Pyro DMG to opponents in front, reverse Essential Transmutation, and enter the Denial of Darkness state for 30s.

When Durin enters the Confirmation of Purity or Denial of Darkness state while in battle, he will restore a certain amount of Elemental Energy. Elemental Energy can be restored this way once every 6s.
Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts
(Elemental Burst)
Durin can use different Elemental Bursts based on his Essential Transmutation state.

Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts: When Durin is in the Confirmation of Purity state, he will use the Elemental Burst Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts, dealing 3 instances of AoE Pyro DMG to opponents in front, and manifesting his power in the Dragon of White Flame form. The Dragon of White Flame will follow the current active character and periodically attack nearby opponents, dealing AoE Pyro DMG. This DMG is considered Elemental Burst DMG.

Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder: When Durin is in the Denial of Darkness state, he will use the Elemental Burst Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder, dealing 3 instances of AoE Pyro DMG to opponents in front, and manifesting his power in the Dragon of Dark Decay form. The Dragon of Dark Decay will follow the current active character and periodically attack a single nearby opponent, dealing Pyro DMG. This DMG is considered Elemental Burst DMG.

When Durin is not in a special state as a result of Essential Transmutation, he will use the Elemental Burst Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts.
Light Manifest of the Divine Calculus
(Passive 1)
Durin will trigger different buffs depending on the form that his power manifests as when he unleashes his Elemental Burst. When that form is:

Dragon of White Flame: After nearby party members trigger Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize reactions on an opponent, or deal Pyro DMG or Dendro DMG to an opponent affected by Burning, that opponent’s Pyro RES, and the RES for the corresponding Element involved in the reaction, are decreased by 20% for 6s.

Dragon of Dark Decay: Durin’s Vaporize DMG is increased by 40% and his Melt DMG is increased by 40%.
Chaos Formed Like the Night
(Passive 2)
After unleashing an Elemental Burst, Durin gains the Primordial Fusion of Forms effect for 20s: Durin gains 10 stacks of Primordial Fusion. When a periodic attack from Dragon of White Flame or Dragon of Dark Decay deals DMG, 1 stack of Primordial Fusion will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 3% of the original DMG for every 100 ATK. A maximum of 75% additional DMG can be dealt this way. When a single attack from Dragon of White Flame or Dragon of Dark Decay hits multiple opponents, only one stack of Primordial Fusion is consumed. Primordial Fusion stacks are reset when the Elemental Burst is unleashed again.
Echoes of the Surging Earth
(Passive 3)
Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Mondstadt Expedition for 20 hours.
Witch’s Eve Rite: Ode to Ascension
(Passive 4)
After completing Witch’s Homework: Of This World, Durin will become a Hexerei character. When the party includes at least 2 Hexerei characters, you will gain the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect, which enhances Hexerei characters.

Hexerei: Secret Rite: Increases all effects of the Ascension Talent Light Manifest of the Divine Calculus (except for Duration) by 75%.
Adamah’s Redemption
(C1)
After casting his Elemental Burst, Durin’s effects will vary depending on the form of his Elemental Burst:

Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts: All other nearby party members gain 20 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment lasting 20s. When nearby active characters deal Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Plunging Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst DMG, 1 stack of Cycle of Enlightenment will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 60% of Durin’s ATK. Stack counts for characters in the party who have Cycle of Enlightenment are managed individually.

Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder: Durin gains 20 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment lasting 20s. When Durin deals Elemental Burst DMG, 2 stacks of Cycle of Enlightenment will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 150% of Durin’s ATK.

When an Elemental Burst is used, Cycle of Enlightenment stacks will be reset.
Unground Visions
(C2)
For 20s after Durin uses an Elemental Burst, after nearby party members trigger Vaporize, Melt, Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize reactions, or deal Pyro DMG or Dendro DMG to an opponent affected by Burning, all nearby party members gain a 50% increase to their Pyro DMG and to the corresponding elemental DMG involved in the reaction for 6s.
Flame Mirror’s Revelation
(C3)
Increases the Level of Elemental Burst by 3.
Emanare’s Source
(C4)
Durin’s Elemental Burst DMG is increased by 40%. Additionally, when effects that consume Cycle of Enlightenment stacks are triggered as part of the Constellation Adamah’s Redemption, there is a 30% chance that no Cycle of Enlightenment stacks will be consumed.
Scouring Flame’s Sundering
(C5)
Increases the Level of Elemental Skill by 3.
Dual Birth
(C6)
Durin’s Elemental Burst DMG ignores 30% of opponents’ DEF. Additionally, Durin’s Elemental Bursts Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts and Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder are each enhanced:

After Principle of Purity: As the Light Shifts and Dragon of White Flame hit an opponent, that opponent’s DEF is decreased by 30% for 6s.

DMG from Principle of Darkness: As the Stars Smolder and Dragon of Dark Decay will ignore an additional 40% of opponents’ DEF.
