Since the first episode of Gen V Season 2 hit our screens, one thing is as obvious as daylight: Dean Cipher is obsessed with Marie. Initially, the reason behind it appeared to be related to Marie being the only survivor of Project Odessa. However, after what we saw in Gen V Season 2 Episode 5, it appears that things are a bit more spread out than we initially anticipated. I have a crazy theory that explains why Cipher is so hell bent on making Marie reach her maximum potential, and I’m here to let you all in on it. So, without further ado, let’s dive right into it.
Why Is Dean Cipher so Eager to Train Marie?
As I mentioned above, initially, the running theory was that Dean Cipher wants to train Marie in her powers because she is the last surviving subject of Project Odessa. However, the events of Gen V Season 2 Episode 5 point us in the direction of a completely different story. In the episode, we see Sister Sage and Cipher working together, and they both want Marie to become stronger. The presence of Homelander’s fear tells us that he is not aware of what they are doing.
Then we see Dean Cipher at Godolkin, insisting constantly that Marie needs to be the strongest there is, and she will have to train under Cipher whether she likes it or not. Following this, Emma, Jordan, and Marie try to break into Elmira but are captured and captivated. There, Cipher reveals that he has kept Annabeth a prisoner, and he will only let Marie and her sister walk free if she agrees to train with Cipher. He also tells Marie that she is not a weapon but “Their Salvation.”
In the same episode, Cipher reveals to Polarity that he was trying to make Andre stronger, but the process killed him, and he also admitted that he tried to enhance Emma and Jordan as well. Now the question is why, and the answer to that seems to be that Cipher and Sage want to kill Homelander.
Why Do Cipher and Sage Want to Kill Homelander?
So this is the part where the theory kicks in. In The Boys Season 4, we see that Homelander has taken complete control of almost everything. Even though Vought remains an independent company with Sister Sage as its CEO, it is still under Homelander’s thumb, and the same in the case of Godolkin. The thing with Homelander is, he is no one’s friend, human or supe. In The Boys itself, we have seen him kill supes for reasons as small as not liking them.
Under Homelander, America is a dictatorship, and for reasons not revealed to us yet, it has, in one way or another, affected Cipher as well. Sage and he appear to have been plotting to do this, but didn’t have the means unless Marie was found. The reason why Cipher is so hell bent on training Marie to access her full potential is for her to kill Homelander, which is why he refers to her as their Salvation.
Since we have already seen that Marie has finally taken complete control of her powers, as she brought Annabeth back to life, there is a chance that further evidence surfaces pointing towards this theory. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
