Fast & Furious Movies in Chronological Order
1. The Fast and the Furious (2001)
The long-running saga of Fast and Furious began in 2001 with the release of The Fast and the Furious. This movie introduced us to Brian O’Conner played by the late Paul Walker and Dominic Torreto played by Vin Diesel. Brian was a cop sent undercover to take down the carjacking and street racing gang led by Dom. However, as the movie progresses, Brian finds a family among these crooks and gradually switches sides joining Dom and his friends.
This movie became a massive success because of its simple storyline, interesting characters and of course, super cool cars, and the partnership of Dom and Brian became a legend that will stay alive for a very long time.
2. The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious is not exactly a movie but a short film with a six-minute duration. This short film shows Brian O’Conner on the run from Law Enforcement as he travels from Los Angeles to Miami where 2 Fast 2 Furious is set. It’s not necessary to watch this one but it does feature a couple of cool races and it’s just 6 minutes long so why not.
3. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
2 Fast 2 Furious brings Brian to Miami where we are first introduced to Roman Pearce played by Tyrese Gibson and Tej Parker by Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. In the entire Fast and Furious franchise, this movie is the only one that does not feature Vin Diesel and revolves completely around Brian and Pearce as they go undercover to take down a drug lord so that they can get their criminal record cleared.
4. Los Bandoleros (2009)
Los Bandoleros is the second short film in the franchise, and even though its exact place in the timeline is not very well defined, it takes place in the Dominican Republic, where Dom has gone to cool down the heat on him after the events of The Fast and The Furious. The runtime for Los Bandoleros is just 20 minutes but in the short runtime, we see multiple elements featuring corrupt politicians, an oil war, and a prison break. This short movie is also the first time we are introduced to Han, whose full-length introduction was in Tokyo Drift.
5. Fast & Furious (2009)
Fast and Furious was the fourth film in the franchise and is a direct sequel to the first movie. This was also the movie where Gal Gadot appeared as Gisele Yashar for the first time. In this flick, we see Dom and Brian teaming up again to take down a drug lord seeking revenge for Letty’s apparent death. Even though they succeed in their mission, Dom is captured by the police and is ultimately arrested. However, in the final scene of this Fast & Furious movie, we see Brian, Mia, and Tego Leo intercepting the prison bus transporting Dom.
6. Fast Five (2011)
Fast Five is the movie that started the turnover of this franchise from being about street racing to an action-packed Hollywood popcorn flick. This movie takes Dom, Brian, and their team to Rio de Janeiro where they steal a massive amount of cash resulting in one of the best scenes in Fast and Furious where Brian and Dom steal the vault attached to their cars and drag it through the streets of Rio.
Fast Five was also the movie that introduced us to Dwayne Johnson as the DEA agent, Luke Hobbs. It also featured a mid-credit scene revealing that Mia is alive.
7. Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
Fast & Furious 6 again brings us to Dom and his crew on the run while Hobbs is making efforts to take down Owen Shaw played by Luke Evans. However, soon he realizes that he is going to need help and asks Dom to work for him by showing him a picture of Letty who Dom thinks to be dead while also ensuring Dom that if he works with Hobbs, we could arrange for him and his crew to go back to the US. The highlight of this Fast & Furious movie was the introduction of Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw.
8. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
Even though Tokyo Drift did not do well at the Box Office, lately it has become a fan favorite. This movie did not feature the lead cast but brought Sean Boswell to the center stage. He arrived in Tokyo to stay with his dad after getting in trouble when he crashed his car while street racing. However, we do get to see Han Lue for the first time after he appeared in the short film Los Bandoleros. Tokyo Drift also features a brief cameo of Dom.
9. Furious 7 (2015)
Furious 7 is probably the most loved movie from the Fast and Furious franchise. This movie is also the biggest success of the franchise making a total collection of more than $350 million while none of the other movies have been able to make that kind of money. Furious 7 is the final movie to feature Paul Walker because of his unfortunate demise during the filming. The movie picks up right after Tokyo Drift and brings in Deckard Shaw as the main antagonist.
10. The Fate of the Furious (2017)
The Fate of the Furious is probably the most start-studded film in the franchise. The cast features stars like Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron, Russell Crowe, and Helen Mirren along with the franchise regulars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and newcomers Dwayne Johson, and Jason Statham. The movie has a pretty standard Fast and Furious storyline with over-the-top action sequences, a lot of cool cars, and a villain who seems impossible to take down but there’s nothing “family” can’t deal with.
11. Hobbs and Shaw (2019)
Hobbs and Shaw is probably the most celebrated spinoff in the series. Featuring Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson. The duo who started as enemies became friends when they assisted each other in escaping prison and now are tasked with saving humanity from a deadly virus. Idris Elba also stars in this movie as the lead villain, a supersoldier named Brixton Lore.
In 2020, a sequel to Hobbs and Shaw was announced, but after a feud between Vin Diesel and Jason, it was confirmed that he will not be appearing in any other Fast and Furious project so it’s pretty clear that this movie is not getting made anytime soon.
12. F9 The Fast Saga (2021)
F9 once again brings the whole band back but this time it’s family against family since in this movie Dom and his crew are pitched against Jakob, Dom’s brother played by none other than John Cena. Every major character that has ever appeared in the series can be seen on screen for this movie. The threat in this movie is Project Aries capable of controlling every single weapons system in the world. However, since we see Tej and Roman fly a Pontiac into outer space, it’s safe to say that the plot is not F9’s strong suit.
13. Fast X (2023)
Fast X is the second last movie from The Fast and Furious franchise leading to the long-awaited conclusion of one of the longest-running franchises. This movie brings in Jason Momoa as Dante, the son of the villain who died in Fast Five and now he is seeking vengeance from Dom and his crew hellbent on killing off Dom’s family. Fast X ends with a massive cliffhanger that makes it seem like except for Dom and his son, the entire family died but we all know they are coming back in the next movie. So, let’s wait and see what happens!
