Does Choso Die in the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga?

Spoiler Warning:

This article includes spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga (up to Chapter 259), including the character of Choso, Yuji, Gojo, and others fighting Sukuna.

Being an avid reader of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, I must warn every enthusiast not to get attached to any character in the series. Gege Akutami can turn your favorite character into ashes in the blink of an eye. He did the same with several beloved characters, including Nanami, Nobara, and even our Gojo sensei. Well, Choso is a Death Painting Womb (half-human, half-curse) who almost killed Yuji in the Shibuya Arc, so no one cared about him. However, when he sided with our main protagonist, Choso made some fans. And as the fight against Sukuna continues and Gege Akutami is on a killing spree, every fan is wondering if Choso is dead in the manga.

Is Choso Dead in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Let’s cut to the chasse, unfortunately, yes, Choso dies in the manga. Despite his mastery of the Blood Manipulation technique, he couldn’t protect himself from eventually falling prey to Sukuna’s attacks.

In Chapter 259, the King of Curses overwhelms Yuji and Choso with his fire technique. However, the King of Curses wanted to kill Yuji with the technique, but Choso came in between becoming a shield. In his last moments, he apologized to his brother Yuji for not being able to teach him the techniques that would help him against the deadly enemy.

The chapter was also filled with flashbacks of Choso and Yuji, and we also saw the former regretting that he couldn’t spend more time with his brother. After getting our boy traumatized by killing off Nobara, Nanami, and Gojo, Gege lets Sukuna possess Megumi’s body and take him away from Yuji.

After these events, it was Choso who sided with him after finding out that Yuji was his brother, so Yuji somehow moved on from the loss of his friends. However, I feel that the author dislikes Yuji so he decided to end Choso’s story this way.

Before leaving Yuji’s side forever, Choso has an emotional time with his brother in an imaginary world. The manga panel sees Choso appreciating Yuji for learning RCT at such a fast pace. However, when Yuji says that he could do that because Sukuna was controlling his body, Choso corrects him, saying that younger siblings always surpass the abilities of the older ones.

Even though Choso died on the battlefield, he fulfilled his ultimate purpose, which was to save Yuji’s life. Have you read JJK Chapter 259? Were you moved by Choso’s sacrifice?
