The John Wick franchise has turned a lot of us into fans of action movies connoisseurs since its release in 2014. Since then, the franchise has seen multiple movies come out of the John Wick universe, turning his career around totally. However, after the release of John Wick- Chapter 4, fans were left in anticipation about the return of our favorite gun-fu master. This is because in the final moments of John Wick Chapter 4, it seems like John Wick has succumbed to his injuries. So, now to answer the big question: Did John Wick die in part 4? Let’s find out!
What Happened at the End of John Wick 4?

We are all aware that John Wick has been looking for a way out of the clutches of the High Table. This is when Winston gives him the idea that he could challenge a high-ranking member of the High Table, Marquis de Gramon, and earn his freedom by defeating him. However, there is a bounty on Wick’s head, and after fighting multiple assassins all night, as well as his old friend Caine, Wick made his way to the duel.
By the end of the duel, even though John emerged victorious, he was heavily injured, which led to his succumbing to his injuries. After this, we see a gravestone with John’s name on it and Winston visiting the grave, implying that Baba Yaga is finally dead. However, is he?
Did John Wick Really Die?
Even though the setting in Chapter 4 makes it look like he has died, the truth of the matter is that John Wick is not dead and is very much up and around. It is now confirmed that Lionsgate is making a John Wick Chapter 5. Now, if you’re thinking how it’s possible, let me explain. By the end of John Wick 4, when Winston visits his grave, we see that John’s Pitbull turns around as if he is looking at something, or “someone” familiar.
If you think I’m just shooting arrows in the dark, with this theory, Chad Stahelski had an interview with Comic Book Movie, where he confirmed that this scene was put in there deliberately just to “fluff” with your mind.
“Yes, that is a very deliberate shot with the dog. That’s meant, in my little mind, to [fluff] with you a little bit, because ambiguity, like is he still or not? Because again, the whole thing is a myth. It’s a campfire story, all four movies. So, in my mind, John Wick, is he real? Is he not real? It’s a story about fate and consequence”
However, did you know that this was not the initial idea behind the ending we got in the movie? Chad Stahelski gave an interview to The Empire magazine, where he revealed that initially, the ending for Chapter 4 was very different from the one that was released in the theaters. He said-
“We had a different ending, [The theatrical ending] was the ending Keanu and I wanted, but we shot a different ending. We shot an ending where you actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”
With that now being mentioned, which ending would you guys have preferred? The one we have in the movie, or the one that reveals that he is alive? Let us know in the comments. Also, if you are missing John Wick on your screen, your wishes will be granted soon. John Wick will appear in the upcoming Ballerina movie, a John Wick franchise spinoff, in a cameo.
