Muzan Kibutsuji created the demons in the first place, so obviously, he is the most powerful demon ever to exist. It would have been a hell of a challenge for an individual to annihilate his existence, so it was the teamwork of a group of Hashiras in Demon Slayer that eventually led to Muzan’s death.

When the Ubuyashiki estate exploded with Muzan in it, the Hashiras attacked the demon lord in an attempt to take him down. However, the portals to the “Infinity Castle” opened beneath all of them, and they couldn’t understand what was happening.

Arriving at the Infinity Castle, Muzan first kills Tamayo as she injects a drug into his body at the Ubuyashiki Estate. After that, Muzan gets into a conflict with Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro. When the demon king almost kills Tanjiro, he gets ambushed by Mitsuri Kanroji, who attacks the demon lord with Love Breathing’s Sixth Form. However, she can’t do much damage to the powerful demon, so Obanai also has to show up.

Later, the battle becomes even more brutal. Other significant warriors, including Genya, Sanemi, Gyomei, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, get involved in the duel. They all know that they must continue the battle until the sun rises to beat Muzan. Many other Hashira, including Muichiro, Genya, Mitsuri, and Gyomei, lose their lives during the final battle. However, their sacrifices do not go in vain, as Muzan eventually turns into dust from the sunlight.

Does Muzan Choose a Successor Before Dying?

Yes, the demon lord did choose a successor, but no one saw it coming. When Muzan takes his final breath, and Tanjiro heads towards him for the final blow, the demon lord smartly injects his blood into the demon slayer’s body.

Even if only briefly, Tanjiro transforms into a demon and starts attacking his peers. While Tanjiro fights Muzan from inside, Kanao comes to his rescue. She makes him consume a medicine that can turn demons into humans. So, finally, Tanjiro returns to his human form, and we see an end to Muzan’s centuries-long cruelty.
