1. Astarion

  • Location: After the prologue, past the crashed wreckage of the Nautiloid on the Ravaged Island. You will hear him requesting help
  • Class: Rogue
  • Race: High-Elf

One of the easiest companions to track down in Baldur’s Gate 3, Astarion is a High-Elf vampire attracted to drinking blood (mostly animals), and at a certain juncture, might try convincing players to let him feed on them. He is found right across the crashed Nautiloid wreckage, asking for help from the players. Astarion belongs to the Rogue class and is great at sneak attacks. Furthermore, Astarion deals substantial damage with each successive attack.

2. Gale

  • Location: At the Roadside Cliffs waypoint, above the Nautiloid wreckage.
  • Class: Wizard
  • Race: Human

A human wizard, Gale is another companion you can recruit in your party after completing the prologue. Tracking him down is simple too. After crossing the Nautiloid wreckage, head above towards the roadside cliffs, where a cutscene starts playing. Through this cutscene, you are introduced to the character.

Gale is a human wizard with access to numerous unique spells and magics for you to enjoy. He is the best person to have as a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you want a party that includes some magical shenanigans.

3. Halsin

  • Location: Halsin is at the Worg Pens in the Goblin Camp. He transforms himself into a bear to hide from his captives.
  • Class: Druid
  • Race: Wood Elf

When you reach the grove at the Ravaged Island for the first time, numerous NPCs mention the kind Druid Halsin. If you follow the main questline, you are tasked with finding and rescuing him from the Goblin Encampment. Successfully saving Halsin gives you the chance to get him to join your party.

Halsin is a Druid wood elf that can shapeshift and use nature to their adventure. If you enjoy characters that can turn into murderous, fluffy bears and use vines to poison or entrap opponents, he is the perfect companion to add to your group in Baldur’s Gate 3.

4. Jaheira

  • Location: Will be found at the Last Light Inn when game launches
  • Class: Druid
  • Race: Half-Elf

One of the original companions from Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Jaheria is a half-elf Druid that will join you in Baldur’s Gate 3 if successfully sway her. She is slated to launch with the official release of Baldur’s Gate 3, and we should have more information about her at that time. We will update this section with her abilities, attacks, and more.

5. Karlach

  • Location: She is found at the Risen Road
  • Class: Barbarian
  • Race: Asmodeus Tiefling

A newcomer to Baldur’s Gate 3, Karlach is a Tiefling that was previously under the captivity of the demon Zariel, where a person sold her to the archdevil. Outside of this, information about this character is scant. Larian Studios have confirmed that you can make her a companion in the official launch.

Karlach is an adept Barbarian proficient at using weapons and fighting with people. Thanks to her class, she has a rather high point in strength attributes. You meet Karlach in an area called the Risen Road. If you play the questline to save Halsin, this is one of the areas you pass through.

6. Lae’zel

  • Location: Inside the Mind-Flayer Nautiloid. She joins your party as part of the story quest in the prologue. Later, you can rescue her on the island and re-recruit them.
  • Class: Fighter
  • Race: Githyanki

The first companion you encounter in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Lae’zel. She is a Githyanki warrior kidnapped by the Mind-Flayer and breaks free of her captivity. Eventually, while escaping the Nautiloid, players come across her, and she joins your party.

Lae’zel is a Githyanki Fighter, mighty by even the standards of her kin. As such, she knows some useful fighting skills during an encounter. Furthermore, Lae’zel has some impressive points in the strength attribute, making her a good choice for a companion in the game.

7. Minthara

  • Location: Inside the Goblin Camp. Minthara plans to attack the druid grove, and players can side with her.
  • Class: Paladin
  • Race: Drow

While the companions mentioned above are aligned to the good side for the most part, what about getting someone nefarious ones from the get-go? Welcome Minthara, a Drow working with the goblins to take out the Druid Grove on the island. If players visit the Goblin camp and interact with her, there is a chance to help her locate the grove and help her. And as an extension, allowing us to recruit her.

Minthara belongs to the paladin class, giving her access to relevant skills. If you want a Paladin in your party, she is the perfect companion to recruit in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, that requires you to become a rather unpleasant individual to the Druids at the grove.

8. Minsc

  • Location: Unknown. Will be available with Baldur’s Gate 3 launch.
  • Class: Ranger
  • Race: Human

Another returning character from the previous Baldur’s Gate games, and a rather popular one is Minsc. Minsc is a human ranger who has a “miniature giant space hamster” called Boo. Both were petrified into stones at the end of Baldur’s Gate 2 and remained as such until Baldur’s Gate 3.

Information about him is non-existent for now. However, he is confirmed to join the cast of companions when Baldur’s Gate 3 launches in a few days.

9. Shadowheart

  • Location: Inside the Mind-Flayer Nautiloid as a captive.
  • Class: Cleric
  • Race: High Half-Elf

While escaping Nautiloid, you will encounter a lady requesting you to free her from a captivity pod. Meet Shadowheart, a mysterious half-elf tasked to fulfill her mysterious mission. If you successfully rescue her on the ship, she becomes a companion. Otherwise, you have another chance of finding her on the ravaged beach. Future encounters result in her trying to kill you if you do not recruit her.

Shadowheart is a cleric and has access to numerous defensive and support spells. Some of her spells can heal you and other companions, while others improve your chances on the battlefield. If that sounds like something that’s important to you, then definitely recruit her to your party. Go through our guide to how to rescue Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.

10. Wyll

  • Location: Players can track down Wyll during the “remove the parasite” questline.
  • Class: Warlock
  • Race: Human

In Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll looks like an interesting individual. He has an attractive demon beside him, hugging him, and he looks like a mean person during fights. One of the characters who is confirmed to get a complete rewrite, Wyll is someone players encounter at the gates of an encampment, involved in a battle against Goblins. If you successfully defeat them, you can make him a companion in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Wyll is a warlock who has made a pact with a demon to gain his powers. I can bet that the demon in question is the one hugging him on the promotional art. Since he belongs to the warlock class, players have access to some impressive magic spells. And since he made a pact with a demon, players have access to some questionably dubious magic spells. But cool ones.
