No other anime can ever beat Attack on Titan in terms of popularity. Although the series has ended, fans never tire of talking about it. AOT has given us many amazing characters, such as Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin, Levi, and several others. Besides them, we get to meet several interesting villains who can’t be easily defeated. One such antagonist is the Colossal Titan, who, alongside the Armoured Titan, became the reason for the Fall of Wall Maria. In this post, we discuss how the huge Colossal Titan is special among the Nine Titans in Attack on Titan.

Colossal Titan Origin Explained

It all started with Ymir Fritz, the one to receive the titan powers for the first time. Following her death, her lifeless body was consumed by her three daughters, namely Sina, Maria, and Rose. Her powers were then divided into the Nine Titans, out of which one was the gigantic Colossal Titan.

Unlike other titans, the Colossal Titan has the most hideous appearance. That’s because it doesn’t have skin on some parts of his face.

Following Ymir’s death, the powers of the Colossal Titan passed on between different Eldian users. When the King of Eldia, Karl Fritz, moved to Paradis Island from Eldia, the Colossal Titan powers went to Marley at the time of the Great Titan War.

The power eventually went to Bertholdt, an Eldian fighting for Marley and the who we first saw shape-shifting into this massive titan. Bertholdt used his Colossal Titan form to breach Wall Maria, which led to several Titans running amock in the Shiganshina district and killing countless people, including Eren’s mother.

Later in the story, Eren snatches Colossal Titan’s power to pass it over to Armin and save his life. Armin uses that same power to fight for his people against Marley. So, Armin was, in a sense, the final user of Colossal Titan’s power in the story before these Titan powers disappeared from the face of the planet. Colossal Titan Powers and Abilities

Although no titan in Attack on Titan is considered less in terms of abilities, the Colossal Titan is seen as the embodiment of power that can defeat any titan coming in its way. When Colossal Titan was shown looking over Wall Maria, one of the main things that reinforced his power was his height.

As per the Attack on Titan manga and anime series, the Colossal Titan comes with a height of 60 meters so its physical strength shouldn’t be questioned.

Among the Nine Titans, almost every titan has an explosive transformation, but Colossal Titan does it in a way that no other titan can. For instance — the users of the Titan power can create explosions during the transformation, but Colossal Titan’s blasts are always massive. The blast caused during the transformation can wash out a large part of a city. However, the Colossal Titan can also control this energy to some extent, and this ability is rarely seen in any other titan.

During the battle of Shinganshina, a large number of Survey Corps cadets were killed simply when Bertholdt underwent his transformation. Besides that, when the Survey Corps was finding it hard to recapture Eren in Marley, Armin used his Colossal Titan powers to wipe out the Liberio’s Marleyan Navel Fleet.

Another unique ability of the Colossal Titan is that the user can emit steam from its titan body whenever they desire. Other Titans usually start releasing some steam from their bodies after being attacked or while healing, but the Colossal Titan can release massive steam that can kill any enemy standing close to it. Moreover, the steam that the titan releases can also make opponents fly across various buildings.

Colossal Titan Weaknesses

Does the Colossal Titan have any weaknesses? The towering height of the Colossal Titan is terrifying and exudes power, but its massive size is also its biggest weakness. The steam release and explosive transformation sure help keep enemies at bay. However, the Colossal Titan is also slow to react and defend against direct attacks.

However, since it is also the Titan that breached Wall Maria in Season 1, we know that the Colossal Titan’s legs are more agile and strong compared to his upper body. If you’ve watched AOT, you may remember seeing Bertholdt kick Eren and send him flying when he fighting Reiner in his Armored Titan form in Shiganshina.
