Alice in Borderland Season 3 is a couple of weeks away, and trust me when I say this, fans are going crazy. X and Reddit are being bombarded with some of the most interesting fan theories, and one of those that I recently stumbled upon is related to the Joker’s identity in Alice in Borderland Season 3.
Shigenori Usagi, Usagi’s father, was a trained and skilled mountain climber who appeared in the previous seasons of Alice in Borderland in flashback sequences. Portrayed by Yusuke Hirayama, the character mainly appeared in the glimpses of his daughter’s flashbacks, where we see him mostly pushing Usagi to go beyond her limits to hone his mountaineering skills. However, a scandal stating that he faked a no-cylinder mountain climb pushed him to commit suicide, maybe. Well, that’s what Alice in the Borderland live-action suggested.
In the manga, Shigenori’s body was discovered, but that ordeal was completely changed in the television show. Shigenori’s last words to Usagi were, “I’m going to the mountains”. After that, he disappeared into thin air, and nobody ever came to know what exactly happened to him. Was it a suicide or did he have a fatal accident?
Well, whatever it is, but fans have started saying, there are possibilities suggesting that Shigenori, after almost dying in the mountains, entered the Borderlands before the main timeline. He might have decided to stay in the new world and become the overseer of the games.
To back up the theory, a fan also commented on Reddit that, if you remember, Ann discovered a place full of mountains while trying to leave the Borderlands behind. They then also stated that in one of Usagi’s flashbacks, his father says that the world would have been a lot better if there were more mountains.
If that’s the case, then there’s a chance that Usagi’s father might be Joker in Season 3 of Alice in Borderlands. Honestly, it would make much more sense, since there’s a hint in the trailers that Usagi was dragged onto the Borderlands. Meaning, someone in the Borderlands wanted Usagi to come back, and it might very well be her own father.
While there’s no confirmation regarding the Joker, as of yet, it’s safe to assume that if this is the case, Usagi will finally have a chance to overcome the grief of not saying a final goodbye to her father.
