Xiaomi’s second-gen selfie-focused smartphone, the Redmi Y2 (starts at Rs 9,999), is all set to go on sale for the first time in India today. The device will be available for purchase at 12 noon on Amazon and mi.com online, as well as at all Mi Home stores around the country. Xiaomi is offering the device in two versions – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and another, with 4GB of RAM and 64Gb of storage.
After teasing the device on social media for several weeks, Xiaomi officially unveiled the Redmi Y2 in New Delhi last week. The device is basically a rebranded Redmi S2, which was launched in China last month. As mentioned earlier, it is being offered in two versions in the country, with the 3GB+32GB model priced at Rs. 9,999, and the 4GB+64GB version priced at Rs. 12,999.
Redmi Y2 Specifications and Features
The Redmi Y2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Snapdragon 625, and ships with a 3,080mAh battery. It comes with Android 8.1 Oreo as part of the company’s MIUI 9.5 ROM. It also has a microSD card slot that supports up to 256GB cards.
In terms of cameras, the Redmi Y2 comes with a rear-facing dual camera setup that includes a 12MP sensor and a 5MP sensor, with the former paired with an f/2.0 lens. It also comes with EIS, but there’s no option to record 4K videos. There’s also PDAF, LED flash, and AI portraits.
Xiaomi has described the Redmi Y2 as its ‘AI Selfie Superstar’, and like its predecessor, it also comes with a 16MP selfie-cam, but with large 2-micron pixels for enhanced photography under low-light conditions. The front-facing camera also comes with AI-driven features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, and front HDR that should help in clicking some high-quality selfies.

Redmi Y2 Launch Offers and Discounts
On Amazon India buyers are eligible to get an instant discount of Rs. 500 by using ICICI credit and debit cards. Additionally, Airtel is offering its subscribers a cashback of up to Rs. 1,800 and up to 240GB of free data with the Redmi Y2. The cashback is valid only on prepaid recharges of Rs 199 or Rs 448 done through My Airtel App. Buyers will get the cashback in the form of 36 discount vouchers worth Rs 50 each.
