The highly anticipated rematch between Luffy and Kizaru ends with the former knocking out the admiral with the White Star Gun attack. While Luffy (essentially) wins this fight, the Gear 5 form takes a huge toll on his energy levels and transforms him into a helpless old man. Luffy is clearly in need of emergency food to get back into action, but he is in the midst of a war with the Marines, and Saturn has step foot on Egghead island.
However, right then, we see someone deliver food to Luffy in the blink of an eye to get him back in top form. So, who is the one who brings Luffy food during the war at Egghead? Is it his friends in the Straw Hats or someone else? Let’s find out the answer as Oda has already hinted at who it is.

Who Gave Luffy Food on Egghead Island?
Luffy is still mastering the Gear 5 technique, his peak form in One Piece. So, activating Gear 5 often saps the energy out of Luffy, which in turn results in the form wearing off instantly. This becomes a massive win for the Marines as the newest Yonko is left in a defenseless state and cannot return to fighting in an exhausted state. Luffy looks clearly ravenous, but there’s no hope for an instant food delivery in the middle of a war, or at least, that’s what we thought.
As luck would have it, someone heartily serves Luffy a jumbo meal. Oda never reveals who delivers food to Luffy in Egghead in the manga. Thanks to this life-saving meal, Luffy is recharged and switches back to Gear 5 form right away. However, this leaves fans to ponder who was the one who delivered to Luffy. We saw One Piece characters such as Sanji, Franky, Sentomaru, and Kizaru who were near Luffy at this instance.
Who gave food to Luffy in Egghead continues to remain a mystery until the creator shines light on this in an SBS. In SBS Volume 110, one of the readers questions Oda about how Luffy received food and restored so quickly. Oda responds with a cryptic answer that heavily hints at Admiral Kizaru being the person who delivers food to Luffy on Egghead island. You can go over Oda’s words below to find it out for yourself:
In chapter 1103, he suddenly starts eating. Who on Earth responded to Luffy’s please for “meat…”? Was it Sanji or Franky, who were nearby? Kizaru and Sentomaru were there too… It seems like nobody found out. In other words, their actions went unnoticed, like it was done at the “speed of light.” Hmm. I don’t know either. Speed of light…
Since the delivery was done at lightning speed, no one else (not even the readers) could notice the person. Oda highlighting “speed of light” in his statement reveals that it was Kizaru as he is the Pika Pika no Mi (Glint-Glint fruit) devil fruit user, making him a human capable of traveling at the speed of light.
Why Did Kizaru Help Luffy by Giving Him Food?
It’s been indirectly confirmed that Kizaru helped Luffy during the Egghead war. So, why did the Marine Admiral go out of his way to help a Yonko? Throughout this arc, Kizaru can be seen in a moral dilemma and has a hard time choosing whether to continue to be the World Government’s lapdog or stay true to himself and help his friends. As a follower of unclear justice, he is more of a cat on the wall as he aimed to carry out his order of assassinating Vegapunk and to help his old pal at the same time.
The latter might be reason why Kizaru helped Luffy during the latter’s dire need for food. Luffy was the safest bet for Kizaru to help Vegapunk survive the Egghead incident. The reason why Oda didn’t reveal who answered Luffy’s call for help is that he is probably saving the Marine switching sides for the final war. This has been theorized from the beginning, and Kizaru is a clear example of this case.
If all the theories turn out to be true, then we might see Kizaru fighting alongside Luffy in the great war that’s about to break out in the Final Saga.
