How to Get Lunge Enchantment in Minecraft
The Lunge enchantment for the spear in Minecraft can be obtained through traditional methods: by using the enchanting table or from enchanted books.
1. Using the Enchating Table
First, you need an Enchanting table in Minecraft, made from Obsidian blocks, diamonds, and a book. Once crafted, interact with the enchanting table and follow the steps below:
- Place a spear in the left cell and a Lapis Lazuli in the right cell under the book.
- Three enchantments will appear on the right side, with a chance of having Lunge in it.
- Once you find the Lunge enchantment, click on it to apply that to your spear. Do ensure that you have the required experience points.
You can also choose to replace the spear with a book to get an enchantment book; however, the chances of finding the Lunge enchantment are lower with this method.
2. From Enchanted Books
Enchantment book is the second way to get the Lunge enchantment. You can either get them from fishing in water bodies or by trading with a Librarian villager.
A simple way to increase the chances of getting enchantment books from fishing is by enchanting your fishing rod with the Luck of the Sea enchant. This will get you better and rarer loot every time you reel in something.
Moreover, you can visit an Expert or a Master Librarian to get better trade options and ultimately get the Lunge enchantment faster, by spending a few emeralds.
What Does Lunge Enchantment Do in Minecraft
The Lunge enchantment grants your spear a special ability — every time you perform a Jab attack, you are propelled forward horizontally, thereby giving a short, controlled dash attack.
However, as we mentioned earlier, this enchant has a major drawback. Your hunger and saturation a comproremised heavily while performing the jabs. Here’s how the jab attacks work after applying the Lunge enchantment on your spear:
- You will be pushed forward by a distance of (0.458 x Lunge enchantment level) blocks per tick.
- At Lunge Level 1, 1.5 hunger points are lost during the attack. At Lunge Level 2, 2 hunger points are reduced, and level 3 reduces 2.5 hunger points with a single Jab attack.
- Your food saturation will be consumed before your hunger points, and hence, you can perform 7 lunges with maximum saturation using the Lunge 3 enchantment.
- In order to travel the maximum distance, you need to face in a perfectly horizontal direction and not look up or down at any angle.
- The spear dash attack won’t work if you’re riding a mount, using an Elytra to fly around, or if you are underwater.
In my opinion, the Lunge enchantment is a game-changer in Minecraft. You can experiment further with this spear to unlock new combat techniques like covering up short distances with your enemies and dodging attacks with the dash attack.
