The fifth episode of The Last of Us Season 2 is now streaming, and it takes Ellie one step further in her crusade to find and kill Abby. In this episode, we see Ellie find Nora and interrogate her about Abby’s whereabouts. However, based on what we saw, Nora isn’t going to tell Ellie anything and is eventually killed at her hands. However, as The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 5 comes to an end, we see the surprise return of a much-beloved character to the screen.

What Character Returned in The Last of Us Season 2?
We see the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 5.
In the final moments of the episode, we see Ellie chasing Nora to extract information regarding the whereabouts of Abby. However, this leads them to the second basement level, which was sealed off by the WLF.
At this basement level, the Cordyceps have mutated to be airborne as spores, which would infect anyone almost instantly. However, since Ellie is immune, she is unharmed, but Nora gets infected and refuses to tell Ellie about Abby’s whereabouts even while dying.
Now, we see rage build up in Ellie as she picks up a metal pipe and mercilessly beats Nora to death. As Ellie lands the final blow, the screen blacks out, and all of a sudden, we see Ellie waking up with Joel standing in the doorway, greeting her, saying, “Hey Kiddo,” in a tone familiar to all of us.
Now, we all know that this was just a flashback, but the way it has been integrated into the show, it’s safe to say that we will not be missing Joel a lot. TLOU Season 2 Episode 5 sees Pedro Pascal return as Joel for the first time since the second episode. We expect to see more of him in the sixth episode as the flashback will continue, leading up to the reveal of what Joel did at the hospital to save Ellie.
