However, it seems as if the creators of The Last of Us want to reinforce the death of our beloved character and have us shed more tears. If you look at the opening credits of The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 3, they have introduced a slight change in the pictography, and it hits harder than it should.
What Has Changed in TLOU Season 2 Episode 3’s Opening Credits?

We are familiar with the beloved title track of The Last of Us, which was a part of the original video game. In the opening credits of the TV series, this track plays along with a sequence of Cordyceps growing over the landscape of a city and dead bodies. By the end of this sequence, we see a silhouette of Ellie and Joel just before the title card appears on screen.
We have seen the opening credits many times and are familiar with it. However, with The Last of Us delivering a tragic suckerpunch to our guts in Episode 2, and the fans losing their beloved character, Joel, the TV series has kicked off a revengeful new chapter.
This is reflected in Season 2 Episode 3’s opening credits. We see that everything from the track to the pictography stays the same until we reach the final moments. We only see Ellie’s silhouette in the final moments of the opening credits, implying that Joel is now gone.
