- The Last of Us Season 2 features several new and much-awaited characters from the video game series.
- Apart from that, we get to meet a TV original character named Benjamin in TLOU Season 2 Episode 1.
- This character is none other than Tommy and Maria's son, who did not exist in the video game series.
What makes a video game adaptation intriguing is the additional scenes and the new characters, isn’t it? That way, we can navigate the storyline and experience the character arcs differently. For instance, The Last Of Us Season 2 introduces us to Benjamin, the little bunch of naughtiness of Tommy and Maria, but we didn’t get to meet the boy in the video game. So, things will be different for the leaders of the Jackson community in the TV show compared to the source material.

In The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 6, Maria talks about his son Kevin, who died during the outbreak. Now, it seems she will finally get to experience motherhood in Season 2, which she has craved for a long time.
Besides that, Joel lost his daughter years ago, and after that, he found a surrogate daughter in Ellie. However, the disaster that took place in South Lake City took Ellie far from him. Despite being in front of him in Jackson, Ellie never talks to him like she used to in Season 1. So, Benjamin, at least, gives Joel reasons to laugh at his naughty acts.
The way he called out to ‘Uncle Joel‘ was enough to melt our hearts. After that, he sat on Joel’s lap and started looking at the map. The loneliness that Joel had been experiencing after Ellie stopped talking to him was relieved for some time with Benjamin’s arrival. To be precise, the little boy comes as a breath of fresh air in a world full of deadly creatures and toxicities.
Even though the premiere episode didn’t give us a significant amount of time to explore Benjamin’s character, we may see him win more hearts with his role in the upcoming episodes. Also, since it’s a TV-original character, the path that the show takes with Benji will definitely be interesting for the entire fandom.
