Subnautica 2 introduces a massive ocean to explore, filled with dangerous creatures. If you want to explore the deepest depths in the game, simple scuba diving equipment won’t be enough. Tadpole is the only vehicle currently added in Subnautica 2, and it only allows one person to ride at a time. The vehicle is shaped as a circular ball with fins, which does make it look like an actual ‘Tadpole’. Using this vehicle, players can explore deeper caves, as it has a 250-metre base depth range.

The Tadpole also provides additional inventory, so that you can bring back a large haul from your deeper explorations. To unlock Tadpole in Subnautica 2, you need to scan three Tadpole fragments. Fortunately, two of the fragments can be found right in the Tadpole Pens, which is not that far from your Life Pod.

How to Build and Upgrade Vehicles in Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 players can build vehicles by crafting the Vehicle Fabricator in their base. You will find the Vehicle Fabricator recipe in our full Subnautica 2 crafting recipe list. But before you can craft a Vehicle Fabricator, you need to build a Moonpool inside your base. The Moonpool must be built in a room that has some space under it, because you won’t be able to deploy vehicles otherwise.

After you have built your Moonpool, build a Vehicle fabricator on it and craft a Tadpole. Now, you can build a Vehicle Dock as well on the Moonpool to safely dock your Tadpole in your base.

Finally, you can upgrade the Tadpole by crafting additional parts, like a chassis for enhanced speed or a hauling station for storage. Alongside that, use the Modification Station to craft upgrade modules that increase vehicles’ depth range, durability, or more. Lodge the modules on the Tadpole by manually going to its back side.
