In Short
  • Eddie could return as a reimagined version of Kas, Vecna's Lieutenant from Dungeons and Dragons.
  • In Season 4, Eddie's dead body was left in the Upside Down, and he could be resurrected after being infected by the Demobats, turning him into a Stranger Things version of Kas the Destroyer in Season 5.
  • As of now, there is no official confirmation of this theory, but it stands strong considering the circumstantial evidence from Season 4.

If you are an early 2000s kid, movies or shows where a group of teenagers end up saving the world are no strangers to you. Bringing in that same aesthetic and approach, Stranger Things made its debut on Netflix back in 2016 and introduced us to characters who have now become household names. One such character was Eddie Mason, played by Joseph Quinn, who met a heroic death after an epic display of his guitar skills.

However, since we all know that Stranger Things brings in characters from Dungeons and Dragons, the lore of this source material advocates that Eddie might return in Stranger Things Season 5, and here, we are going to take an abyssal dive into how it can happen. We will also discuss the Eddie Kas theory that has been making the rounds on the internet.

What Happened to Eddie in Stranger Things Season 4?

In Stranger Things Season 4, Eddie was killed by a swarm of Demobats. In the episode where we witness his fall, the other had come up with a plan to attack Vecna, but the surroundings of where he was holed up were guarded by a massive swarm of the said flying beasts. To give his friends a clear path, Eddie, along with Dustin, hatched a plan to distract the Demobats.

Eddie climbed to the top of his trailer with his electric guitar and absolutely shredded the life out of it, playing the solo to Master of Puppets by Metallica. While the plan worked and drew all the Demobats to Eddie, the plan didn’t exactly work out as they wished it to, forcing Dennis and Eddie to fight the bats all on their own.

To save Dennis, Eddie sacrificed himself and was killed by the creatures. Even though the people of Hawkins were certain he was a murderer, Eddie died a hero’s death in a blaze of glory, wrapped in heavy metal.

Will Eddie Return in Stranger Things Season 5?

Okay, so now it’s time to nerd out and put on our silver foil hats. As I’ve said before, Stranger Things introduces us to characters familiar from Dungeons & Dragons. So, to understand how Eddie will return, we will have to look into the massive lore of the fantasy board game. In Stranger Things Season 4, Dennis and other characters were forced to leave Eddie’s dead body in the Upside Down, which could potentially turn out to be the reason for his return.

In Dungeons and Dragons, Vecna was not alone in his exploits and was followed by his trusted Lieutenant named Kas. However, Kas betrayed Vecna, causing him to lose an eye and a hand. However, Kas’s betrayal did not work out, and in battle, he was thrown into The Plane of Ash. Prolonged exposure to the Negative Energy Plane or the realm of the undead turned Kas into a powerful vampire, and he adopted the name of Kas the Destroyer.

Stranger Things Season 5 could bring us an adaptation of this very plotline, but in the show, Eddie might turn into Kas, working under Vecna’s control and appearing as a villain in Season 5. Now listening to this theory might make you wonder if I have any evidence to back it up, and as it turns out, I do…kind of.

How Can Eddie Turn Into Kas in Stranger Things?

Talking about evidence supporting Eddie’s transformation into a vampire, we don’t have anything official as of now, but we do have some details that can be considered circumstantial evidence. First off, it has been made clear all along to us that if someone comes in contact with the organisms in the Upside Down, they get infected or corrupted. There is a possibility that Eddie’s body will be corrupted by being drained dry of blood by Demobats.

Now, since Vecna controls every organism that exists in the Upside Down, if Eddie turns into a vampire, he would easily be able to control Eddie since the fallen hero would join the hive mind of the Upside Down and could be given the name of Kas under Vecna’s command.

Since there is no official statement to prove these theories, we can’t say anything for certain as of now, but considering the love fans have for the character, it only makes sense for Netflix to bring him back, which would also track appropriately with Netflix’s modus operandi. So, now all we have to do is wait and see if this comes to pass.
