A Lightwhip used the same principle as a Lightsaber but in a rather highly modified form. The Lightwip uses one or more plasma blades covered in a highly flexible containment shield. Since the blade is flexible, it compromises the cutting power of the Lightwhip. However, the Lightwhip was not always the weapon of a Jedi and dates back to the Sith Wars. This weapon was associated with the Nightsisters of Dathomir, who made an appearance in Ahsoka Season 1.

What Is the Difference Between a Lightsaber and a Lightwhip?

Now a lot of people wish to learn the basic difference between a Lightsaber and a Lightwhip and in all honestly there isn’t much except a few things. First off, a Lighsaber is a sword-like weapon with a stiff extendable plasma blade while a Lightwhip is a flexible whip-like plasma blade—other than that the basic working principle of both weapons is similar.

The Lightwhips were initially a weapon wielded by the Nightsisters of Dathomir but in the context of the Jedi,  Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh was the first Jedi to wield a Lightwhip, and the way she built it is quite an interesting story. While she was posted at Port Hailleap, she had a Force Vision that showed her how to modify her Lightsaber to give it a whip mode activated by twisting the first ring of the hilt of her lightsaber. She was uncertain about how the Jedi Masters would react to the modifications made by her so she kept it a secret only revealing it to Padawan Imri Cantaros after being stranded on the jungle moon of Wevo.
