Absolute Being created Ashborn out of light, which made him a Ruler. However, when the Rulers and the Monarchs became thirsty for the blood of their creator, only Ashborn decided to prove his loyalty towards the deity by going against his own kin.

Despite being a powerful ruler, he lacked somewhere and was left to die by the two forces. However, when Ashborn was inching towards his death, he discovered the ultimate power that the Absolute Being had hidden within him. After taking control of the powers, he went back to the battlefield and learned that the Absolute Being had been killed already.

He then sided with the Monarchs and fought the Rulers to stabilize the power balance. The one who was once a Ruler had now become the mighty Shadow Monarch.

Ashborn’s newly found powers scared Antares, so he sent two Monarchs, namely Rakan and Baran, to corner the Shadow Monarch. However, Ashborn had the upper hand in the duel from the start. While Rakan decided to flee, Baran stayed and got himself killed at the hands of the powerful Monarch.

Seeking revenge on Rakan, Ashborn went into hiding so that he could buy time and build a powerful Shadow Army. When he returned, Antares welcomed him with open arms. Centuries later, when Ashborn followed the Monarchs to the human world, all he wanted was a human who could be his vessel. He was approached by a mage called Kandiaru, who offered him help in exchange for the gift of Immortality.

Kandiaru created the System to find someone with a good physique and fighting abilities to be Ashborn’s vessel. However, the one who passed the levels of the magical program neither possessed a solid physique nor any strength. In fact, Sung Jinwoo was described as the ‘WEAKEST HUNTER OF HUMANITY.’

Ashborn observed the true potential of the boy, which lies in his will to keep going, and that’s when he decided to choose Jinwoo as his vessel. To be precise, he later made up his mind to make Jinwoo the one who would take his legacy forward.

So, when the Monarchs managed to kill Jinwoo in the final battle, Ashborn transferred all of his powers to the hunter and made him the new Shadow Monarch in Solo Leveling. Wondering about the strongest shadows in Jinwoo’s army? Find out the answer while you are here.
