Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the highly anticipated sequel of Dragon’s Dogma and the sequel reintroduces many of the old mechanics in a new and updated way. Some of the reintroduced mechanics in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are the Pawn System, the classic 4-party teams, and the romance system. Romance and NPC affinity were a big thing in Dragon’s Dogma, albeit first-time players of the game had no clue it existed until they fought the main boss. Dragon’s Dogma 2 also has the Romance system, so here is everything you need to know about it.

Yes, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have a Romance and NPC affinity system, similar to the first game in the franchise. Hideaki Itsuno confirmed, in his interview with IGN, that the Romance system is going to be available in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and it will be better than the prequel.

Itsuno also mentioned that Ulrika is going to play a big role at the start of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and can become close to the Arisen over time, drawing parallels to Quina in Dragons Dogma. However, players won’t be limited to Ulrika, or any other main NPCs, when it comes to romance. Dragons Dogma 2 will give free rein to players to find their love interest in the game.

How to Romance in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Romancing in Dragon’s Dogma has always been based on the NPC affinity system. Interacting with NPCs, doing their quests, or giving them specific items increases the affinity between the NPC and the player.

The NPC with the maxed affinity with the player becomes their love interest in the game. The fun part about the romance system in Dragons Dogma 2 is that it is not limited to a few NPCs. Players can basically romance with any NPC interactable in the game, some being much harder than others.

The first part of Dragon’s Dogma did not introduce this system to the players at all, leading to some awkward moments of finding NPCs players most interacted with, which generally turned out to be Merchants or Blacksmiths, to be their love interests at the end of the game.

Finding an old-aged balding man who is nefariously known to steal tax money and prey on the weak as your love interest at the end can be quite a scene.

How Is Romance Better in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The Romance mechanic is much better in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and players have a better chance of grasping who they are actually falling in love with in the game. Itsuno mentioned in his interview that once players become friendly enough with in-game NPCs, they may come over to the Arisen’s house to play or hang out.

However, if there are other NPC characters with similar affinity already visiting over, then a fight might break out. Having in-game NPCs fight over your attention is going to be hilarious and I am looking forward to it.

Can Players Romance Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Players were forbidden from romancing Pawns in the original Dragon’s Dogma, and there has been no indication yet that it is any different in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Pawns are loyal to the Arisen and lack any form of will of their own. This can make it quite troublesome to romance pawns, as it just won’t feel correct.

Are There Romantically Explicit Scenes in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s listing details hint at instances of sexual content in the game, although not anything too explicit. The listing also hints at interactions with sex workers, so expect brothels in the game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have some explicit scenes, but it won’t be anywhere near the Baldur’s Gate 3’s level.
