Despite the immense love PC gamers receive, PS5 fandom looms large. Sony’s latest console brings some amazing features and is almost there in functionality. Well, almost. The one department that it lacks is PS5 themes. As a fellow gamer, I was very curious about PS5 themes and the ability to customize my homescreen. Feel the same way? Do PS5 Themes Even Exist?
Unlike the PS4, the PS5 currently doesn’t offer downloadable themes that let you customize the console’s background with static images or music. While this might disappoint some users who enjoyed this feature on prior PlayStation systems, the PS5 offers a unique approach to personalizing the home screen.
Can You Change the PS5 Background?
Unfortunately, there are no options to change your PS5 background. However, the PS5 takes a unique approach to home screen personalization with dynamic backgrounds. Instead of a static image, the background behind the game tiles seamlessly transitions to reflect the game or app you’ve highlighted. This creates a more immersive and dynamic user experience.
As you browse your game library, the background transforms to showcase the corresponding title’s artwork, giving you a quick visual reminder of the game’s atmosphere and themes. This approach can heighten anticipation for a particular game you’re about to play or help you rediscover the visual style of a title you haven’t booted up in a while.
While the dynamic backgrounds offer a fresh take on personalization, it’s important to consider some drawbacks. Users who prefer a more consistent aesthetic across their home screen might find the constant background changes distracting. Additionally, there’s no option to customize the background with entirely personal images or themes, which some users might miss. You can change your cover image but that does not reflect on the homescreen of PS5.
How to Change Your PS5 Profile Background
While the PS5 doesn’t offer downloadable themes for the home screen, you can personalize your profile with a custom background image (cover image). Here’s how to achieve this in a few steps:
- Press the PS button and select your avatar in the top right corner.
- Select the Profile option from the dropdown menu.
- Click the pen icon and select Cover Image from the menu.
- You can change or remove images from this menu.
- Select any image and crop if you wish, then press Save.
- Press the Done button to confirm your Profile Background (Cover image).
Will PS5 Themes Make a Return?
While Sony hasn’t announced plans to introduce downloadable themes for PS5, it’s not entirely out of the question for future updates. The PS5’s user interface is still under development, and Sony may incorporate theme functionality in the future.
Especially with PS5 already adding Discord and knowing that fans love the customization of their favorite consoles’ homescreen.
