One Piece: Loki’s Hammer ‘Ragnir’ (Explained)

In the ongoing Elbaf arc, Eiichiro Oda draws inspiration from Norse mythology to flesh out the world and characters of the giants. The author didn’t forget to include a fan-favorite mythical hammer, Ragnir, the One Piece version of Mjolnir, which we all loved to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After introducing the hammer, Oda has been keeping its real power under wraps for a long time. Fortunately, with Loki’s backstory coming to an end, we are beginning to understand the hammer’s true powers. So, here is everything we know so far about Loki’s hammer, Ragnir, in One Piece.

Ragnir isn’t just another weapon in One Piece, as its true role has been revealed in the latest One Piece chapter. Ragnir is actually the guardian of Elbaf’s national treasure. Therefore, it is this hammer that decides if one is worthy enough to eat the legendary Elbaf fruit. King Harald noted that no one has been able to eat this devil fruit in centuries, as they were never deemed worthy by Ragnir.

When it was time to kill King Harald (as he was losing his mind to Imu’s control), Loki found the Elbaf Devil Fruit as his father advised, but Ragnir was protecting the Devil Fruit. As a result, Loki duelled with Ragnir and eventually proved his worth to the hammer, which seemed to have a mind of its own. Then Ragnir allowed Loki, the chosen one, to eat the legendary Elbaf Devil Fruit. Since that day, Ragnir has decided to remain by Loki’s side. But what we didn’t expect was that the hammer would possess its own devil fruit power.

Ragnir’s Devil Fruit in One Piece

The Ragnir doesn’t function exactly like a Mjolnir, as Oda has added his own spin to the hammer in One Piece. When Loki defeated Ragnir, the mythical hammer transformed into a squirrel hybrid with a hammerhead. This moment proved that this hammer has consumed a Devil Fruit, most likely a Mythical Zoan.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen an inanimate object become a Devil Fruit user. Or this could be the case of a squirrel eating a hammer-based Devil Fruit power. Either way, it works in the world of One Piece. But we believe the hammer was fed the Ratatoskr-inspired Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit for now. Because the squirrel is likely a reference to a Ratatoskr creature from Norse mythology. Ratotoskr is said to be a messenger traveling through the world tree, Yggrdrasil.

The hammer has the power of lightning, as seen before when Loki smashed the Adam tree and then ended his father’s life. We are yet to see its other set of abilities in the manga, which could be very similar to Mjolnir’s powers.

For now, Ragnir is already one of the most powerful characters in One Piece. If you are wondering why we consider the Hammer to be a character, it is because of its partially sentient nature after consuming a Devil Fruit. That said, let’s wait to learn more about the new fan-favorite hammer in the upcoming chapters.
