The One Piece live-action adaptation has managed to exceed expectations and brought in several new fans on the pirate journey with our beloved protagonist Luffy. Ever since the release of the first season, everyone’s been wondering whether we will get another season or not, and well, we have an answer today. Just moments ago, Netflix confirmed that One Piece live-action season 2 has been greenlit, and we will be able to witness Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey across the Grand Line soon. Here are all the details.
One Piece Live Action Season 2 Is Coming!
In an official tweet from the Netflix account, we have One Piece author Eiichiro Oda delivering us this exciting news. Speaking to his fans via a Den Den Mushi (aka Transponder Snail), Oda confirms that Netflix has renewed One Piece for Season 2.
“To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years, and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much. Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news…Netflix has decided to renew the show,” said Oda sensei in his message. You can check out the whole video message right here:
As expected, Netflix and Tomorrow Studios wish to continue to tell the story of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) who wants to become the Pirate King and find the One Piece treasure in live-action. He already found the initial few members of the Straw Hat Pirates and is now headed to the Grand Line, where he will need to recruit a doctor to the crew, as hinted by Oda sensei.
Manga and anime fans already know what’s coming next, but if you are new to the series, we are talking about Tony Tony Chopper, who will be introduced in One Piece Live Action Season 2. Oda sensei drew him in the video message in the tweet above. We are also likely to witness more of Baroque Works (teased in season 1, see easter eggs here) and what happens next, so stay tuned.
Also, in the tweet from Netflix, Oda mentions that the team will need some time to finalize the scripts before they can start production. We did not hear any exact dates for the Season 2 release, but with recent comments from Tomorrow Studios executives, we can expect the One Piece Live Action series to return in about 18 months.
