In the epic climax of the Egghead arc, Bonney took on the form of Nika and fought against St. Saturn alongside Luffy. Now, Joy Girl isn’t an official name given by Oda, but it is the special nickname fans coined for Jewelry Bonney’s Nika form in the One Piece series.

Don’t confuse Joy Girl with Joy Boy, as they are entirely two different characters in the series. When fans first heard the nickname “Joy Girl,” some mistakenly thought the Joy Boy of the Void Century was a woman, but that was cleared when Joy Boy made his official debut. If you are wondering how there is a second Nika all of a sudden in the One Piece story, the answer has to do with Bonney’s overpowered Devil Fruit. Bonney has the powers of the Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age-Age) Devil Fruit. Many believed that this power only allowed Bonney to manipulate her age and others for a long time. However, this devil fruit came with another broken ability, Distortion Future.

Apart from switching the age, Bonney can use the Distortion Future ability to take on a future form (from any reality). This essentially means Bonney could access any form she desires, as she just has to imagine the future she wants in the first place. When Bonney was escaping from Alpha, she used her power to access a Nika-like future and turned her tiny hand into a massive one (similar to Luffy’s Gear 3) and punched the agent in disguise.

Years later, Bonney became a key character in the events of the Egghead arc. When she was trying to escape with the Straw Hat Pirates on the giant’s ship, St. Marcus Mars and Saturn interrupted them. So, Luffy quickly entered his Gear 5 mode, but Bonney wondered if she could ever keep up with someone as Nika. Luffy immediately responded with words of encouragement, assuring her that she could join him even though he didn’t understand her powers completely.

With the idol figure she yearned to see for years by her side, Bonney remembered that Luffy’s Nika form is just the freest version of Luffy. Thus, this time, Bonney utilized her Toshi Toshi no Mi power to transform into a future form where she was also her freest version, and the result was Bonney becoming the second Nika, Joy Girl in One Piece.

Fans were a bit concerned when Bonney was able to easily replicate Luffy’s Gear 5 form with her Distortion Future technique. However, the author thankfully revealed the serious limitation of Bonney in the Nika form. As you may be aware, Bonney cannot remain in an alternate future form for a long time.

On top of it, Bonney noted that she couldn’t maintain the Joy Girl form as it took a huge toll on her more than any other form. Thus, Bonney returned to her normal kid form after aiding Luffy in his fight against St. Marcus Mars and throwing a Nika Punch against St. Saturn in the climax of the Egghead arc.

Bonney will stay in the Nika form for a couple of episodes before running out of energy. That said, did you like watching Bonney becoming the Joy Girl in the story, or do you think Bonney didn’t deserve the Gear 5 form? Let us know in the comments below.
