The Kuja Pirates have unexpectedly become the center of attention in One Piece, as Loki’s flashback is taking some surprising turns. If you have been following the One Piece manga for a long time, you know the drill whenever a new female character gets introduced. Every time a new female character makes her debut, fans immediately speculate that she might be Luffy’s mother, just as they did with Ginny during the Egghead arc. Nevertheless, Tritoma emerges as a strong contender for the role of Luffy’s mother, and let’s find out why the fans firmly believe in the Tritoma theory here.
Spoilers Warning:
This article contains spoilers about the empresses of Amazon Lily. Make sure to catch up to the latest chapter 1156 to avoid ruining your intended experience.
Who Is Tritoma in One Piece?

Tritoma, who was previously mentioned by the creator in an SBS Volume 109, has officially made her debut in One Piece chapter 1156. It seems like she worked as an apprentice of the Kuja Pirates during Gloriosa’s time, as the kid brought in a ton of fan letters for her captain. So if you are curious what’s so special about Tritoma, she became the Pirate Empress of Amazon Lily following Shakky’s exit, and was later succeeded by Boa Hancock.
Tritoma was the former empress who forgave Gloriosa’s actions and let her live in her homeland when she made her way back to Amazon Lily with the Boa family. Following this incident, the only other piece of information we know about Tritoma is the fact that she unfortunately passed away due to the Love Sickness disease 13 years before the current events in the story.
So, Is Tritoma Luffy’s Mother in One Piece?

If we take a look at the history of the empresses of Amazon Lily, every queen has fallen in love with an iconic character. For example, Gloriosa loved Roger, Shakky fell for Rayleigh, and the current empress, Boa Hancock, is head over heels for Luffy.
The only missing piece is Tritoma, who must have fallen for a fearsome individual in the past. In that period, Monkey D. Dragon, Garp’s son, who quit his Marine job, rose as the “World’s Worst Criminal” for his rebellious acts.
As the timelines match, Tritoma could have been swept off her feet by Dragon. As seen with Elder Nyon’s case, Tritoma used to be an empress loved by her people for her kindness. So, we can’t write off the fact that a noble-hearted empress lost her heart to Monkey D. Dragon, the sole character to rebel against the injustices endured by the people.
If that’s the case, there is a chance that Tritoma made her way out of Amazon Lily and lived together with Dragon, which would have resulted in the birth of Luffy. In his relentless pursuit of justice, Monkey D. Dragon became too preoccupied to fulfill his responsibilities as a father. On the other hand, Empress Tritoma couldn’t defy the customs of the Amazon Lily Kingdom, where men are not allowed at any cost. Dragon didn’t want the world to know Luffy is his child, as it would attract unwanted dangers.
A child is their parent’s weak spot – Monkey D. Dragon
As their obligations tore away, they must have had no choice but to leave Kid Luffy with his grandfather, Monkey D. Garp. Moreover, it is also the safest option where Luffy could grow up loved and live free from danger. Luffy never knew anything about his father until his grandfather told him in the post-Ennies Lobby arc, and it will be the same with his mother’s case.
When Kuma’s backstory unraveled in the Egghead arc, fans were surprised to see that Kuma traveled to all the locations the Straw Hats were sent to except the Amazon Lily in search of a cure for his daughter. Therefore, there must be a deeper meaning behind the act of Kuma sending Luffy to Amazon Lily, which very well could have been his birthplace.
Additionally, Tritoma was officially announced in One Piece chapter 1156, and you know that the numbers 56 are always associated with Luffy, as 5 and 6 mean ‘Go and Mu’ in Japanese. The author is known for his wordplay, and this chapter number could also be a main clue.
However, several facts contradict the Tritoma is Luffy’s mother theory, such as if Tritoma ended up Dragon, then why did she die due to the Love Sickness disease? Then all the Kuja tribe members are said to have given birth only to girl children. Fans are coming up with many different answers to the contradictions, and you can check out any one of the theories, such as this Tritoma theory, which we found in X.
Author Eiichiro Oda About Luffy’s Mother

There are many rumors and mistranslations of author Oda’s comments about Luffy’s mother. However, we could find only one verified statement from SBS volume 78. When one of the readers asked why there are a lot of deceased and unknown mothers in One Piece, the author replied:
I see. Well. The answer is simple. That’s because “mother” is the antonym for “adventure”
As you can see here, the author seems to consider mothers to be the opposite of adventures for some reason. It could be the case where mothers don’t want to see their children risk their lives in the name of adventure. That is why the creator doesn’t prefer to introduce all the characters’ mothers in the story. If Oda sincerely believes in this idea, then it’s likely that we’ll never get to meet Luffy’s mother in the story.
But that would never stop the fans from theorizing that Imu or Crocodile is Luffy’s mother. For all we know, Dadan (one of the best female characters in One Piece) is the mother who stepped up and raised not just Luffy but also his brothers Ace and Sabo with care and love.
Now the newfound details make Tritoma a worthy contender to turn out to be Luffy’s mother in One Piece. That said, what do you think about Tritoma? Do you believe this pirate empress is the mother of Luffy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
