If there is one character in One Piece who has moved mountains within a short time, it is definitely Blackbeard. Every fan is well aware of how Marshall D. Teach has been busy bending the fabric of reality with his special body in One Piece. Both author Eiichiro Oda and his characters in the story have been giving subtle clues about Blackbeard being an entity different than other characters. So, let’s discuss the mysterious body of Blackbeard and how poses a global threat in One Piece.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers about Blackbeard in One Piece. We suggest you read the manga to avoid ruining the intended experience.
Blackbeard’s Bizarre Body in One Piece
For the last two decades, Oda has continued to stir the pot with Blackbeard’s strange portrayal by planting strange ideas about his body and associating him with the number three. Moreover, the author lets him casually bend the law of physics and obtain all the powers as he pleases.
Hence, fans are slowly starting to believe that Blackbeard has three souls or hearts that allow him to consume and use three devil fruit powers. This sounds a bit crazy, right? Well, let me explain with some great examples.
The first famous clue comes from Blackbeard’s Jolly Roger (check out the best Jolly Rogers in One Piece ), which has three skulls specifically unlike any other. Next up, he has three flintlocks with him all the time and he gives Shanks three scars across his face. There were several hints like this, which point towards the number three.
To this day, we still wonder why the Straw Hat Pirates referred to Teach as ‘they’ and it still stands as one of the biggest mysteries. This can be the main reason why Blackbeard can already wield two devil fruit powers at the same time.
One Piece Character Comments on Blackbeard’s Special Body
In every part of the One Piece story, some of the important characters have shared hints and details about why Blackbeard is a special character with an irregular body:
- When Blackbeard unlocked his second devil fruit power, Marco remarked that Teach wasn’t normal and had an atypical body.
- The Five Elders (Gorosei ) have been around for a long time, and they confirmed Blackbeard is the first character to break the rules to get a second devilfruit power.
- Even Buggy commented that Blackbeard never had to sleep in his entire life.
- In the Egghead arc, Saturn remarked Blackbeard hailed from a very special lineage, which further makes us wonder why he has a special body.
Blackbeard’s Special Lineage in One Piece
From the moment Saturn mentioned that Blackbeard hailed from a special bloodline, fans began to speculate about the special race Teach could belong to. Longtime One Piece fans instantly brought up the following races — Lunarians, Giants, and the Buccaneers as soon as the conversation around Blackbeard’s lineage heated up.
When you compare that with Blackbeard, you can eliminate the first two and the only viable option is Buccaneers. Blackbeard has substantial height and size to match the Buccaneers, but remember he is just half the size of Kuma. St. Saturn remarked Kuma was one of the survivors of the race that committed a grave sin in the past. So, if there are other surviving Buccaneers out there, Blackbeard could be the prime candidate.
Many believed Joy Boy was also a Buccaneer in One Piece but Oda revealed that he was a human in the latest chapters. So, the chances of Blackbeard turning out to be a Buccaneer are slim right now.
Furthermore, there is no proof that Buccaneers have the power to get more devil fruit powers at the moment. Anyway, Oda will be shedding more light on Blackbeard’s backstory as we are nearing the end of One Piece. In the meantime, what do you think about Blackbeard’s strange body and powers in One Piece?
