The Ninja Gaiden series has been an important part of the action gaming genre since its debut in 1988. It is known for its fast-paced gameplay, epic combat, and the most iconic protagonist, Ryu Hayabusa. After a decade, Team NINJA and PlatinumGames have announced the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden 4. This will mark the series’ return, and the studio named its 30th anniversary “The Year of the Ninja.”

Ninja Gaiden 4 Takes Us to Tokyo

Ninja Gaiden 4’s story is set in post-apocalyptic Tokyo, destroyed by the Darkrot caused by the Dragon. The title’s main protagonist, Yakumo, is introduced in the trailer as he maintains a dark and intense atmosphere. There will be rail-based traversal, and Yakumo can use blood-based attacks.

Another key figure of this title is Ryu Hayabusa. The trailer shows that players will soon realize the connection between the two characters and see how both of them clash at the end. This game aims to balance nostalgia for both longtime fans and newcomers.

The announcement at Xbox Direct also included the remastered Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which is available right now on Xbox Game Pass. This is a revamped version of the original released back in 2008. The studio has tried to maintain the originality by slightly improving the graphics, as the game is made on Unreal Engine 5.

Finally, Team NINJA and PlatinumGames have emphasized their collaborative effort to enhance this series’s gameplay while ensuring it retains its original elements. Moreover, developers have highlighted that the game primarily focuses on fairness in combat. It blends the strategic offensive attacks with your defense to give you a balanced experience.

Ninja Gaiden 4 will launch in Fall 2025 for Xbox Series X/S consoles and will be available on Game Pass on day one.
