In the world of My Hero Academia, people are born with a quirk that enables them to become superheroes fighting against evil. However, the evil lord All For One is capable of stealing any number of quirks as he wishes. To defeat AFO, the One For All came into existence, and it is the only quirk capable of extinguishing the insurmountable threat. What Is One For All Quirk in MHA?

The One For All is the only quirk in the MHA that allows the user to pass their quirk to a future successor. This quirk was first manifested by Yoichi Shigaraki, the younger twin brother of All For One. In the past, All For One forcefully fed the Power Stock (ability to build up power) to his brother, thinking that he was weak and born without any quirk. However, Yoichi already had the “Quirk Bestowal” (the ability to pass down the quirk) at that time.

Yoichi then fused these two quirks within him together to give birth to the One For All quirk. This quirk has been passed down to eight successors over time. All Might, the greatest hero this world has ever seen, transferred it to the quirkless Izuku Midoriya at the beginning of the MHA series. Izuku, aka Deku, would go on to be the last one to wield this quirk before it had to be disintegrated.

Every One For All Quirk in My Hero Academia

As One For All has been passed down by numerous heroes, this quirk is packed with many sub-quirks that previous users utilized. One For All allowed its users to build up the powers of each of their quirks and pass down the strongest version. That was the reason why it was considered the strongest quirk in history.

Apart from the standard power stock and quirk bestowal, Deku was able to access all six quirks that were stored within the One For All quirk, and they are as follows:

1. Gearshift

All the laws of inertia we learned in school became null and void when it came to the Gear Shift quirk. This quirk gave Deku the ability to switch the rate of acceleration of anything he touched with his hands. It didn’t apply only to objects, as Deku was seen using this quirk on himself to speed up his movements and his punches to hit harder, unlike ever before, in his final battle against Tomura Shigaraki.

Toshitsugu Kudo, the second user of All For One, previously wielded the Gear Shift quirk before passing it down. Overall, this was one of the most difficult quirks to master. Deku could only use this quirk for a short period (five minutes) as the impact it left on his body was too significant to ignore.

2. Fa Jin

Next up, we have Fa Jin, which is an energy-related quirk that can be used in tandem with all the other One For All quirks. With Fa Jin, Deku charged kinetic energy nd stored it within him by rapidly repeating an action. In his fight against Lady Nagant, Deku moved his legs rapidly in a squat position to build up the kinetic energy in his legs.

Then he used it to move at unreal speeds and unleashed the Manchester Smash move. It’s entirely up to Deku to utilize all of the kinetic energy or use it wisely as needed in different situations. The only weakness of this quirk was that the user could be in a vulnerable state while charging up the kinetic energy. And the output obviously would be low if Deku got interrupted while building up.

3. Danger Sense

The title of this quirk is enough to give away that this quirk’s ability is very similar to Spider-Man’s iconic Spidey Sense. Deku essentially awakened a new sense during the Paranormal Liberation War, which enabled him to catch the dangerous threats around him. The danger sense was automatically activated whenever a human with ill intent was around the user.

Danger Sense was originally used by Hikage Shinomori, the fourth user of One For All. While this quirk seemed to be helpful at all times, Deku noted that the pain he suffered when using this quirk was intolerable. Deku could also get bamboozled by this quirk, as adversaries could take advantage of this quirk and lure him out. Even characters like Himiko Toga, who only had love for Deku, weren’t detected by this quirk.

4. Blackwhip

The next quirk we have here is Blackwhip, and it can be easily explained as it’s very similar to Spider-Man’s web, but with a catch. This was originally used by the fifth One For All inheritor, Daigoro Banjo, and Deku unlocked it during the Joint Training Battle. This quirk enabled the users to generate long black threads in the shape of a whip out of their body parts. These black whips were directly tied to the user’s anger, so the power of the whips was directly proportional to Deku’s anger within him.

There is no doubt that Blackwhip was one of the most versatile quirks within OFA, and it was flawlessly used in tandem with other quirks. The blackwhips were used to swing between buildings for traversal, trapping opponents, and Deku did many more extraordinary things in battle with them. Since the power of the black whips was associated with his anger, Deku had trouble controlling the quirk at times.

5. Smokescreen

Smokescreen was a much simpler quirk in comparison with the other quirks within One For All. As the name suggests, all that this quirk offered was the ability to conjure a heavy smoke out of the blue. This was more of a passive quirk that allowed Deku to escape from dangerous situations.

It was also used in battles to hide his presence and surprise the enemies. That’s pretty much everything this quirk did in the MHA series. When you think about it, the Smokescreen also put Deku at a disadvantage as the thick smoke affected his vision as well, but he had Danger Sense to counter it to some extent. En Tayutai, the sixth inheritor of One For All, had this quirk previously.

6. Float

Levitation has always been a super helpful power in any superhero series, and the final quirk of OFA is called Float. Nana Shimura, the mentor of All Might, was the former user of float before Deku in MHA. Float was such a useful quirk, which enabled Deku to rise in the air and float. While this quirk may seem powerless on paper, the power stock ability also increased the overall power of this quirk to a great extent.

Therefore, Deku was seen flying at unreal speeds, and it was also a perfect quirk to be used in conjunction with the other OFA quirks, such as Blackwhip, Fa Jin, etc.

Is One For All Quirk Gone?

If you have read the MHA manga, then you would know that Deku ends up quirkless in the climax. To put an end to Tomura Shigaraki’s calamitous threat, Deku had to transfer his OFA quirk to Tomura to destroy him from within his body. As a result, the One For All power vanished with all of its quirks when Tomura was erased from existence.

So, yes, the One For All quirk is gone in My Hero Academia. Though Deku had embers of OFA left inside him, they also began to vanish with time, making Deku quirkless as he was at the beginning of the MHA series. However, Deku continues to be a superhero to this day because of the new suit made possible by his friends in the MHA ending.

That said, do you agree that One For All is the strongest quirk in MHA? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
