While exploring trial chambers in Minecraft 1.21, you might want to try out all the different weapons in the game. Most of them are fairly well-known, but there is one that is so unique and also arguably the most dangerous for everyone involved. Yes, we are talking about the end crystals. These entities are highly explosive and can make a mess of the surroundings. Today, we will be discussing the end crystals in Minecraft, teaching you how to make and use them in-game.

What You Need to Make an End Crystal

End crystal is admittedly not that cheap to craft. It requires the following items:

  • 1 Eye of Ender
  • 1 Ghast Tear
  • 7 Glass Blocks
  • Crafting Table

Eye of Ender is a special pearl-like item that can activate the End dimension portal where you can beat the game. It can be crafted using 1 ender pearl and 1 blaze powder. Feel free to check out our linked guide to make an eye of ender.

Ghast tear is a drop from jellyfish-like Minecraft mobs in the Nether dimension – ghasts. Regular glass blocks in Minecraft are the result of smelting sand in a furnace, which our guide explains in detail.

Crafting table is a utility block you can craft with four planks of any wood type. It offers you a 3 x 3 crafting grid for making various in-game items, like the end crystal.

Furthermore, it’s possible to use the crafter in Minecraft 1.21 for this crafting recipe, but it requires a redstone signal to execute a crafting action.

Where Can You Find an End Crystal Naturally

If you’ve ever been to the End dimension, you probably know where you can find the end crystals. These entities generate naturally on top of the large obsidian pillars on the main End island. You cannot obtain them from here though, since punching makes them explode. Their purpose in the End is to heal the Ender Dragon, the game’s main boss.

However, they are also used to respawn the Dragon. Placing four end crystals in the center of each cardinal direction side of the bedrock portal will make them explode and the great animation will start playing. After some time, all the destroyed obsidian pillars and the end crystals on top of them will reappear and the Dragon will spawn.

How to Use End Crystals in Minecraft

But, let’s now see how the player can use end crystals. As we already mentioned, end crystals are extremely dangerous. If punched or damaged in most ways, it will explode creating a large crater equal to the explosion of the charged creeper. Unlike the TNT primed entities, end crystals do not warn the player in any way, but explode instantly.

Moreover, you may only place them on top of bedrock and obsidian blocks. After they have been placed, there’s no way to move it. The only thing you can do is shield the surroundings by flooding with water. Even though this is such a powerful explosion, it behaves like other explosions in the game, stopping them from breaking any blocks submerged underwater. But keep in mind that it can still damage you.
