Luffy has reached his pinnacle in terms of power with the Gear 5 technique, achieving the Nika form. It is indeed the perfect power-up for our unbound hero, Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy thoroughly showcased the powers of his Gear 5 form in the Egghead arc against an admiral and even the Five Elders in One Piece. Now, with the Elbaf arc finally underway, Luffy has received a new power-up that might have gone unnoticed by fans in the latest One Piece chapter 1129.

After a long period of training, Luffy revealed his new Gear 4 form against Doflamingo during the Dressrosa arc. Before Luffy’s Gear 5 form was introduced, Gear 4 used to be the fan favorite as the technique included 3 sub-forms with tons of powerful offensive and defensive moves.

However, the technique required Luffy to always go into the respective form to access its move sets. This was the biggest downside of the fourth Gear form. Things have drastically changed since Luffy awakened his devil fruit powers though.

In chapter 1129, Luffy pulled off his “Gomu Gomu no Kong Gun” to break the mirror wall to escape from the mysterious giant lockup. However, if you look closely, Luffy didn’t transform into his Gear 4 form to execute this attack. Instead, he was able to successfully perform the Gear 4 attack in just his base form.

In the latest chapter, it is established by Oda sensei that our beloved rubbery pirate has evolved a lot since his awakening. In his freest Gear 5 form, he can access all of his former moves without needing to transform to the respective form. So, for many fans, this might seem like a tiny upgrade to Luffy’s powers, but it is a much-welcome upgrade that will exceptionally increase his battling prowess over time. That said, what do you think about Oda’s upgrade for Luffy’s Gear techniques? Do let us know your opinion in the comments below.
