Loki Season 1 Recap: All to Know Before Season 2

Loki season 2 is all set to hit Disney Plus in a few days, and I, for one, am excited to see how the story unfolds after Loki gets back to a TVA he no longer recognizes. Loki season 1 turned out to be a massive success among viewers because of how it was able to present the different dynamics of the character of Loki. This enabled the viewers to develop a connection to the character and understand him better. As good as the first season was, all we can hope is Loki Season 2 delivers what it has promised.

Now, since the Loki Season 2 release date is just around the corner, I think that it isn’t a bad idea to revisit the events of season one to be able to connect the dots and understand future events that will unfold on 5th October. However, it’s going to be quite time-consuming to watch the whole series again, won’t it? So, to save you the hassle, I’m going to give you a quick recap of all that happened in this Loki season 1 recap! So without any further ado, let’s look at the God of Mischief’s adventures in Loki Season 1.

Loki Season 1 Episode 1 Recap: Glorious Purpose

Loki Season 1 Recap: All to Know Before Season 2

Episode one of the series picks up from the events of Avengers: Endgame where Loki escapes using the Tesseract cube. This leads to the creation of an alternate timeline that was not supposed to happen as it would hinder the timeline that leads to all the events we see further in the MCU. Loki turns into a variant, a person who does something he was not supposed to and disrupts the whole timeline. So, a timekeeping organization called the TVA (Time Variance Authority) that makes sure no such hindrances happen shows up and arrests Loki for disrupting the timeline and erases the alternate timeline he has created.

Loki is taken to the TVA headquarters where he learns all about the timekeepers and the formation of TVA. Then, he meets Mobius who saves him from being pruned, or removed from existence, because he needs his help with a variant case. We then see Loki having a hard time accepting that such an organization exists and tries to escape but is unable to do so.

Later, he discovers infinity stones being used as paperweights and learns that TVA is indeed the most powerful organization in the whole universe. Loki goes back to Mobius and discovers that the variant he needs Loki’s help to capture is a version of Loki himself.

Loki Season 1 Episode 2 Recap: The Variant

In the second episode, we discover what time charges are and how this variant of Loki has been hunting down TVA hunters to collect them. Until now, we have no idea who this variant of Loki is as no one who has been in contact with her from the TVA has survived. We also see Mobius and Loki develop a friendly bond where Mobius sticks up for Loki as he needs his help.

TVA has not been able to figure out where this variant has been hiding and Mobius hands this task to Loki to figure out where it might be taking refuge. After some time, Loki figures out that this variant of his is hiding in apocalypses because no matter what happens there will be no anomaly. After all, that timeline is bound for destruction.

Mobius and Loki are able to figure out the exact location where this variant might be hiding and go there with a strike team led by Hunter B-15 to capture them. Soon, the variant possesses Hunter B-15 and tells about their plan to Loki, who offers for them to join forces, but the variant refuses. It is also revealed that the Hunter this variant had abducted was under a spell and spilled the location of the Time Keepers to the variant.

The variant then shows itself, and it turns out to be a female version of Loki. She uses a TemPad to deploy time charges randomly in time causing a massive disruption and escapes through a portal. Loki follows her through even after Mobius asks him to stop.

Loki Season 1 Episode 3 Recap: Lementis

As episode 3 opens, we see this female variant (name unknown until now) sitting in a bar with Hunter C-20. She is under a spell created by the variant and is being interrogated about the location of the Time Keepers. The episode then shifts to TVA, where we see this variant and Loki entering TVA via a portal created by her.

She starts fighting the Time Hunters who are trying to stop her while she makes her way to the chamber of the timekeepers to slay them. She is almost at the golden elevator but is intercepted by Loki himself and they get into a fight. Judge Reneslayer shows up trying to prune both of them but Loki uses the variant’s TemPad to escape.

They are thrown on a planet called Lementis-1 whose moon is about to crash into the planet annihilating it. They cannot escape to another timeline as the TemPad is out of power. It is then revealed that the variant’s name is Sylvie and that they will have to charge the TemPad to get off the planet.

Both the Loki variants find their way on a train that is taking the rich people to the ark to get off the planet to use its battery to charge the TemPad but things go wrong as people get suspicious of them and they get into a fight with the guards. Loki is thrown out of the train and Sylvie follows him as he has the TemPad. The TemPad is destroyed in this scuffle and they come up with an alternate plan to hijack the Ark and get off the planet.

Sylvie also reveals that the people of TVA are not created by the Timekeepers but are variants kidnapped by them and brainwashed. They make their way to the Ark but as soon as they are about to enter it, the Ark is destroyed by the collapsing moon.

Loki Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: The Nexus Event

The episode opens up with the story of how Sylvie was taken from Asgard as a child by Judge Renslayer and then we see Loki and Sylvie in the present waiting for their impending doom. As they talk with each other and start developing a connection, there’s a major Nexus event and TVA locates them.

As Loki and Sylvie are just about to perish, The TVA shows up and takes them both to their HQ. Mobius puts Loki in a time prison where he has to live one of his bad memories again and again. Before Mobius puts Loki there, Loki tells him that the TVA has been lying to him. This makes Mobius suspicious, so he confronts Reneslayer and swaps his TemPad for hers during a chat. He then discovers that Reneslayer was lying to him about Hunter-C20’s demise and Loki was telling the truth.

Hunter B-15 also figures out that she is being lied to and confirms it by freeing Sylvie who shows her a glimpse of her past life. Mobius frees Loki from the time prison but Renneslayer discovers that Mobius knows the truth and prunes Mobius. She takes both Loki and Sylvie to the Chambers of the Time Keepers to get them pruned but with the help of Hunter B-15, they break free and get into a fight.

Sylvie chops off the head of one of the Timekeepers, and it turns out they are merely androids. By the end of the episode, Reneslayer prunes Loki. In the post-credit scene of this episode, we see that Loki is not dead but wakes up somewhere surrounded by his variants.

Loki Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Journey Into Mystery

The fifth Loki episode picks up with the post-credit scene of episode 4. Loki wakes up in a place called the Void, which is essentially the end of time and serves as a dumping ground for everything the TVA prunes. Loki meets the other Loki variants, including classic Loki, kid Loki, alligator Loki, and boastful Loki. They take him back to their hiding spot while escaping Alioth who eats up any matter in its path in the Void.

In the Void, Loki plans to kill Alioth and the other Lokis mock him for this idea. Back at the TVA, Sylvie is trying to get information out of Reneslayer and finds out about the Void just before Reneslayer’s men ambush her. She prunes herself and travels to the Void to escape her fate and meet Loki.

Here, she is being chased by Alioth and is rescued by Mobius. Back at the Loki hideout, Vote Loki, along with the other variants, attacks Kid Loki and the variants we met before. Well, boastful Loki had betrayed them and told Vote Loki the whereabouts of their hideout. All the Lokis get in a fight and Classic Loki creates fake projections of his friends so that they could escape.

Kid Loki and Classic Loki agree to help Loki and lead him to Alioth. As they are about to leave, Mobius and Sylvie show up and Mobius goes back to TVA to “burn it to the ground” and take down Reneslayer. Sylvie and Loki attempt to enchant the beast but are overpowered by it. Classic Loki creates a distraction to get enough time but loses his life in the process. They successfully enchant the beast and find their way to a castle-like structure.

Loki Season 1 Episode 6 Recap: For All Time Always

This episode sees Loki and Sylvie walk into the Citadel at the End of Time, where we meet Miss Minutes and learn about the person behind everything that has happened so far. Then, we meet a man who goes by the name of ‘He Who Remains’ and is essentially a variant of Kang. He tells them that he took the responsibility to make sure that his other variants are stopped to prevent a universal war but Sylvie is hell-bent on killing him.

Loki tries to reason with her but it all fails. Kang offers them to rule the TVA together and opens a portal that leads back to the TVA. Sylvie is in no mood to take up the offer and wants to kill him but Loki intervenes. They both get into a fight with each other, but in the end, Loki surrenders of his own free will to make Sylvie understand that he is not in favor of killing He Who Remains to make sure Sylvie is okay.

Back at the TVA Mobius and B-15 look at the screen and there are several branched timelines and things have gone beyond repair. Back at the castle, Sylvie is still not convinced, and she pushes Loki into the portal, sending him back to the TVA. She then stabs He Who Remains whose parting words are that you’ll see her soon.

Loki is back at the TVA headquarters and is looking for Mobius but to his surprise, when he finds him, Mobius does not recognize Loki. And in the background, the place where the statue of the Time Keepers was, now rests the statue of Kang. That’s the cliffhanger where Loki Season 1 ends.

What to Expect from Loki Season 2?

Although the trailer of this new season doesn’t reveal a lot to us about the storyline, we will see Mobius and Loki back together trying to fix Loki’s glitching and at the same time trying to fix the timeline that broke in the last episode of Loki season one. As per the trailer, we will also get to see Loki and Sylvie back together in action along with some new characters like Zaniac.

Although it’s not clear what the plot of this series might be, I’m pretty hyped up to see where the story of Loki goes, especially what happens with the romantic connection brewing between Loki and Sylvie. However, to find out all the answers, we will have to wait until October 5 to calm down our cats of curiosity.
