Featuring the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 was released in July 2023 and ran until December 2023. The events of the season ultimately shaped the series’ future. From Gojo and Geto’s past to the night when Sukuna destroyed Shibuya, everything transformed the Jujutsu Kaisen world forever. So, it’s evident why fans are eagerly waiting for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, which will eventually bring the most infamous arcs of the manga to life. However, if you are having difficulty recalling the crucial events of the previous season, this article offers a recap of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.
Hidden Inventory Arc Reveals Gojo and Geto’s Tragic Origin Story in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

The early moments of the anime take us back in time when our main protagonist, Yuji Itadori, wasn’t even a part of the Jujutsu world. It’s 2006, and we meet Mei Mei and Utahime Iori, who go to investigate a haunted house with a terrifying history. A strong curse traps them there, but it is eventually eliminated by the second-year sorcerers: Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo. Even after they retrieve the girls, their teacher, Masamichi Yaga, scolds them for not using a curtain while using their powers. He doesn’t want the commoners to know anything about Jujutsu, and Gojo doesn’t understand his point.
Later, Yaga tells them that Master Tengen wants Geto and Gojo to protect Riko Amanai, who is the Star Plasma Vessel. He then explains that Tengen must merge with a compatible Star Plasma Vessel every five hundred years so that their cursed energy doesn’t evolve uncontrollably, because if that happens, Master Tengen will become the biggest threat to the Jujutsu world. Yaga then says that two groups want to kill the Star Plasma Vessel: the curse-user organization Q and the Time Vessel Association, and Gojo and Geto must protect her.
By the time Gojo and Geto reach the location of Riko, the members of Organization Q launch their first attack. However, Geto rescues the girl using his abilities. Later, the duo eliminates the Organization Q members with ease.
On the other side, the Time Vessel Association hires Toji Fushiguro, who is infamously known as the sorcerer killer. He isn’t any random enemy; he is way smarter than anyone could have thought of. Toji is aware of the sorcerers he has to fight, so he makes a plan. He posts Riko’s photograph on a dark website, mentioning that anyone who would kill her will be rewarded with a thirty-million-dollar bounty. He already knows that no one can kill Geto and Gojo, so it will cost him nothing. Toji just wants to tire the enemies before confronting them directly.
Suguru and Satoru encounter two curse users: an elderly adult and a man wearing a bag mask over his face. The duo knocks them down eventually. Riko’s caretaker, Misato, also accompanies them, but she gets kidnapped by the Time Vessel Association. Suguru and Geto, along with Riko, ultimately locate and rescue her. However, just when Gojo deactivates his cursed technique, believing that there’s nothing to worry about now, Toji shows up out of nowhere and stabs him from behind.
Toji hits Gojo with the special-grade cursed tool, the Inverted Spear of Heaven, which nullifies Gojo’s techniques, leaving him helpless. Meanwhile, Geto takes Riko for the merger, but there, he gives her two choices: accept her fate or live her life as she wishes. Riko chooses the second option, but the poor girl gets shot in the head by Toji. Geto is shocked to see a single man giving them tough competition and ultimately winning the race.
Moments later, Geto realizes that Toji Fushiguro has zero cursed energy, which makes his presence undetectable by the sorcerers. Toji basically harbours Heavenly Restriction, which allows him to sneak up on the enemies without getting noticed. This was the reality check for Geto; he soon starts doubting the power scale of the Jujutsu sorcerers after getting defeated by someone who doesn’t have any cursed energy.
Toji delivers Riko’s lifeless body to the Time Vessel Association, but just when he is about to leave, Gojo arrives. He has healed himself using the Reversed Cursed Technique after realizing the potential on the verge of death. Toji tries to attack him again, but this time, Gojo stuns him with Hollow Technique: Purple, which only a few know about. Before dying, Toji tells Gojo that his son, Megumi, will be sold to the Zenin Clan in the near future.
After that, Geto arrives, but when Gojo asks him to kill all the members of the Star Religious Group, the sorcerer refuses. He says that a sorcerer must have a solid reason to kill someone.
Shibuya Incident Arc Breaks Heart of Every Gojo Fan

The first heartbreak in the Shibuya Incident arc was the betrayal of Mechamaru, who made a deal with Mahito and Geto. Of course, Mechamaru had no intention to see Geto’s plan fulfilled, so he tried to kill Geto and Mahito and even tried to warn Gojo about it. However, he is eventually killed by Mahito, and the Shibuya Incident plan proceeds.
Now, the evil curses trap Shibuya and all humans in the region by covering the entire region with a veil. This begins the ultimate fight between the sorcerers and the curses, and sure, Gojo was a force to be reckoned with, and he could have easily defeated all the curses. However, Kenjaku in Geto’s body arrives on the scene and uses the surprise element to trap Gojo in the Prison Realm.
With Gojo trapped in the Prison Realm, the curses move forward with their plan, and the Sorceres continue to fight this threat. Yuji and everyone do their best, and even Nanami surprises everyone with his deadly power, especially when he beats Haruta to a pulp.
Around the same time, Yuji comes across Choso, who is hellbent on killing Yuji because the boy killed Choso’s brothers in Season 1. However, just when Choso was about to finish off Yuji, he realized that Yuji was connected to Kenjaku, which made Choso and Yuji brothers. Weird, but that makes Choso leave Yuji alive. But this doesn’t end well for Yuji, as eventually, Toji feeds all ten fingers of Sukuna to Yuji, thus awakening the King of Curses. Oh, that’s right, we all remember Toji getting resurrected by Granny Ogami in Season 2.
Megumi then goes on to fight Toji, who soon realizes that the kid standing in front of him is his son. Right then, Toji kills himself without revealing his identity to Megumi. That’s not the worst of what we see in Season 2, as Megumi falls unconscious after summoning Mahoraga. Sukuna then fights off Mahoraga using his Domain Expansion. This move not only defeats Mahoraga, but it also destroys everything in Shibuya. Sukuna takes joy in all the lives he claimed, and then he gives back the control to Yuji so the boy can see all the destruction.
Also, at this point, Nanami gets half-burnt after his fight with Jogo, and that’s not the extent of heartbreak fans felt for Nanami. After losing most of his strength, Nanami couldn’t fight Mahito, who used Idle Transfiguration to kill Nanami. If that wasn’t enough, Mahito then goes on to kill Nobara as well, using the same godfrsaken ability.
Yuji has obviously seen a lot of deaths, so he loses his will to fight. But then, Todo arrives on the scene and makes Yuji fight Mahito with his full might. It costs Todo one of his arms, but he helps Yuji in defeating Mahito. As Mahito crawls away like an insect, Geto (Kenjaku) arrives on the scene and consumes Mahito.
Finally, the higher-ups at Jujutsu Society blame Gojo and Yuji for everything that happened at Shibuya. So, they not only order Yuta to kill Yuji, but they also sentence Principal Yaga to death.
Gosh, Season 2 of JJK was surely a traumatizing experience, but believe me, Season 3 of the anime series will be even more heartbreaking for fans. Anyway, this recap must have jogged your memory on everything that happened in Season 2. And now, you’re all set to experience the brilliance and brutality of the third season.
