After Sam removed Lou from the BB, he retreated from the public eye and moved to Mexico. Sam now leads a peaceful life, raising Lou in his hidden shelter. Remember, Fragile asked Sam to join her Drawbridge porter crew in the original game? But Sam rejected the offer back then.

Well, a few months later, she tracks down Sam’s shelter in Mexico and knocks on his door. Fragile presents him with the same offer, and Sam accepts it this time to help connect the different regions in Mexico.

Sam leaves Lou in Fragile’s care as she offers to take care of the baby while Sam is out on yet another porter journey. A few days after Sam’s departure, in an unexpected turn of events, a group of mech soldiers attacks Sam’s shelter. Fragile, in an attempt to save Lou, tries to escape from the shelter on her unicycle. However, she gets shot from behind and crashes onto the ground.

Sam rushes to his shelter after getting an emergency notification. When he arrives at the place, it’s already too late, as he only finds Fragile in an unconscious state. He patches her up in his wrecked home.

Fragile awakens and apologetically reveals that she couldn’t protect Lou. She tried to jump to a different place, or at least make Lou jump to one, but unfortunately, she couldn’t. It is then revealed that a mech soldier shot Lou during this time, and we see Lou lying in silence when Fragile tries to reach her on the beach.

Sam’s soul is shattered when Fragile finishes telling him the story. However, Sam sees a tiny BT with wings get into the BB pod. This moment implies that Lou’s ‘Ha’ (body) died during the fateful incident, but her ‘Ka’ (soul) remains in this world. And it is her soul that enters the BB pod.

Sam is tormented by Lou’s passing, but he takes the BB pod with him on his new journey to connect the Australian continent.

Lou’s History Revealed in Death Stranding 2

The original game uncovers Sam’s history and how he came into this world. In line with this, the sequel unravels Sam’s past and the connection with his BB. As you make steady progress through the story, you will unknot the mystery about Lou’s status in the series.

First, it is revealed that Sam has always been carrying an empty BB pod in the sequel. Refusing to face the truth that Lou is dead, Sam has been seeing illusions of Lou as a spirit inside the BB pod to shield him from the truth all this time. It was Doll Man who was helping Sam see the BTs by linking up with the Odratek sensors, and not Lou this time.

When Sam slowly starts to accept the fact that Lou is no more, new information about BB-28’s past comes to light. We learn that BB-28 is, in fact, none other than Sam’s child, whom he thought was dead all along. We only knew that Sam, along with his pregnant wife, was caught in a ‘void out’ that ended their lives. However, since Sam is a repatriate, he was able to resurrect back to life.

If you thought that was the shocking twist of the game, there is more. Throughout the sequel game, Higgs remarks that Sam doesn’t know anything about his BB. Later, it was revealed that he was the one who attacked his base to exact revenge against him, and Higgs spills the truth that Tomorrow is Sam’s daughter.

Higgs then kidnaps Tomorrow and teleports to the beach to trigger the Last Stranding extinction event. As Sam, you then defeat Higgs in an exhilarating battle with guitars and save Tomorrow in the end. So, how did Lou survive and grow up to become Tomorrow? Fragile has the answer.

After the final battle, Sam returns to the DHV Magellan only to find that Fragile is dead. Then, Die-Hard Man and Deadman disclose that Fragile’s memories of that fateful day surge back when they reach the APAS’s beach. She finally discloses that Lou wasn’t shot to death; instead, it was Fragile who got shot by Higgs when making the jump. As a result, Fragile’s soul was dead in the land of the dead, and her body endured for the little time it had left until this moment.

In her final message to Sam, Fragile further reveals that it was Lou who connected them to the world of the dead and jumped to that location. Fragile left Lou in the care of the dead souls, as it was the safe option rather than bringing Lou back here. As time works differently on the beach, Lou grew up quickly, unaware of her history. Neil was there to protect Tomorrow as he had promised to protect the baby for Lucy Bridges.

When Sam went into the mysterious realm for the first time, he saved and brought back Tomorrow without knowing that he rescued his daughter. Just like the players, it all makes sense to Sam only in the end.

In conclusion, Lou isn’t dead, and she is indeed Tomorrow (played by Elle Fanning) in Death Stranding 2. In the end, Lou reunites with her father after all the tough times they went through on their own. The mid-credit scene of Death Stranding: On the Beach teases that Louise will be the protagonist of Death Stranding 3, if that ever gets made by Kojima in the future.

Kojima is a master when it comes to delivering emotional twists, and he effortlessly does it in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. If you finished the game already, let us know your thoughts about Lou revealed to be Tomorrow in the comments below.
