Damien Darkblood is a demon who escaped from Hell. After his escape, Damien becomes a detective (for GDA) on a mission to get justice for people, also in the hopes of saving his soul from hell. He is the first person to find out Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, is the killer of the Guardians of the Globe. However, since Damien went against Cecil’s orders to investigate this case, he was banished from Earth back to hell by Cecil using the reconstructed version of Demonius Ex-Mortum.

That was the last time we see of him, and he didn’t make a return for a while. In fact, Damien is a pretty minor character in the Invincible comics as well. On the other hand, Damien always had a separate fanbase who wanted him to return in the comics as well as the animated show. Now, their dreams have become a reality as Damien Darkblood officially returns in the mid-credits scene of Invincible Season 3 Episode 8.

The demon detective finally makes an appearance after a long time in the mid-credits scene of the Invincible season 3 finale. He is seemingly in hell, where he was banished to in season 1. He calls upon the Great Beast, the Lord of Hell, and vows to return him to his Infernal Throne with the help of a strong surface dweller with a ‘blackened heart.’

Damien remarks that this man from Earth possesses far superior strength that the hells haven’t seen in ages. So, if you are wondering which character Damien Darkblood is talking about to with his lord, we have a clue already. Before this post-credits scene, there is a scene where Mark mentions how he is ready to kill anyone who threatens to kill his loved ones.

Mark has been a virtuous man all along, but the recent events have now made him forget about his no-kill policy. One could say that his heart has now started to blacken as there is a clear change within our superhero’s heart. So we are predicting that Damien is talking about Mark, aka Invincible, and will summon him to hell in the upcoming season.

Robert Kirkman Teases Damien Darkblood’s New Story

Three years ago, in an interview with Grace Randolph, Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, mentioned that he was really excited about doing new things in the Invincible show. He also talked about how he loved to bring distinct storylines: “Along the way, yeah, I really like the idea of bringing in different storylines that I maybe considered doing and didn’t do in the comic book series and coming up with, you know, new things entirely along the way.”

In the same interview, the creator talked about how he has always wanted to do a story with Damien Darkblood where Invincible goes to hell. In his words:

I mean there’s like a really cool Damien Darkblood plot that I had. I’ve always loved the superhero trope of superheroes going to hell you know yeah that happens in Marvel comics and DC comics all the time and we never got around to doing it Invincible but I had always planned for there to be ‘some adventure where ‘nvincible has to go to hell to like do something with Damian Darkblood and I think we’re hopefully going to be able to do that in the show’

This interview was done way back in 2021 and perfectly describes the storyline awaiting us in season 4. The Invincible show will cover a completely new story where Invincible and possibly other heroes get summoned to hell by Damien Darkblood. Also, Damien mentioned that he would be waiting for Cecil in hell and that there is a worse place awaiting the head of GDA while he was pulled back to hell in season 1. So, there is a possibility of Cecil joining Invincible in his ride to hell.
