Invincible Might Face the Most Unexpected Villain in Season 3

In Short
  • Cecil could be the main villain in Invincible Season 3.
  • In the comics, Mark goes against Cecil for using D.A. Sinclair's help to create his Reanimen. The conflict is exacerbated after Cecil hires Darkwing 2 in the GDA.
  • The trailer also suggests that Mark and Cecil will have a major falling out which will be revealed fully on February 6, 2025, with the release of Invincible Season 3.

Invincible Season 3 is set to release in less than a month and the fandom has been waiting for this release for quite some time. Even though we have a trailer for the upcoming season, there is still little to no clarity regarding who will be the main villain of Invincible Season 3. Since we know the series follows closely with the comic run of Invincible, we can draw certain parallels regarding what the story can bring us in the next season.

If the series follows the comic book storyline, Cecil will be the main villain of Invincible Season 3. Now, this might sound deranged to a lot of you, but hear me out. In Invincible Comics, Mark and Cecil had a major falling out because Cecil used D.A. Sincalir’s expertise to create Reanimen. Mark could not accept the fact that Cecil had been using a murderer as an ally.

Mark leaves the GDA and becomes an independent hero. Even if we look at the trailer of Invincible Season 3, we can see that Cecil and Mark had a major falling out and there is even a scene where Cecil is using Reanimen against Mark. While Cecil might not be exactly a villain, he is an antagonist in the context of Mark and his principles.

Cecil Hiring Darkwing 2 Sours Mark and Cecil’s Relationship

In Invincible Season 2, we were introduced to Night Boy, Darkwing’s sidekick who took up Darkwing’s mantle after he was killed by Omni-Man. However, Darkwing 2 does not stick with his mentor’s no-killing rule and murders several people in the comics.

Moreover, the appearance of Darkwing 2 in the trailer of Invincible Season 3 confirms that the show could follow the comic storyline where Cecil makes him a member of the GDA. Cecil sends Darkwing 2 to arrest a superhero named Wolf-Man who had killed someone in the past. This enrages Mark even more and makes Cecil a hypocrite in his eyes. Mark breaks every rule and helps Wolf-Man escape the GDA which turns Cecil and Mark’s conflict official.

We already know of Powerplex appearing in the series as a villain but if the series follows the comic book storyline to the tooth, there is a high chance that this time around, Mark will be standing against Cecil.

This is kind of sad considering the relationship they have developed through Seasons 1 and 2 but at the same time, it would be epic to see that go down on screen. What do you think? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for more updates!
