Stranger Things is finally coming to an end with season 5, and fans are nothing but excited to see the concluding chapters of this beloved series. However, the time gap mentioned here was rather minimal, but this time around, things are a bit different. It has been confirmed that we will be witnessing the biggest time jump we have seen in the series with Stranger Things Season 5, while the new seasons will also circle back to the original season. Here, I explain the timeline of Stranger Things Season 5.
When Do the Events of Stranger Things Season 5 Take Place?
If we look at the events we have witnessed in Stranger Things till now, the show has covered 3 different years so far. Season 1 of the show took place in the fall of 1983, Season 2 happened in the fall of 1984, then Season 3 happened in the summer of 1985, and Season 4 happened in 1986. Now, if we talk about the timeline of Stranger Things Season 5, the show takes the longest time jump we have seen yet and takes place in the Fall of 1987, almost a year and a half since the season 4 finale.
This means that a significant amount of time has passed since the last season, and the characters we have known on screen will look a lot different from what we saw last. This time jump leaves a lot of questions unanswered for the fans, regarding the massive cliffhanger that the previous seasons concluded with. However, I am certain that Duffer Brothers will give us the answers within the upcoming season, because if not, it will seriously impact the way season 5 will be received by the audience.
Stranger Things Season 5 Also Takes Us Back to 1983 and 1953
With the first 5 minutes of Stranger Things Season 5 released, it was also revealed that Stranger Things Season 5 will give us flashbacks to 1983, when Will first went missing and got trapped in the Upside Down. In the first 5 minutes, we got to witness a look into what happened to Will while he was stuck there. We see him being chased down by a Demogorgon, and even though he briefly escaped, he was captured and then taken to Vecna.
We then see Vecna trap Will while stating that they “can begin” and that they would “Do such beautiful things together”. This implies that, since the very beginning of the series, Vecna was the one pulling all the strings. In Stranger Things Season 5, we also see that Max is trapped in Henry’s memories after the events of Season 4. Even though her body is in a state of coma, her mind is stuck in this prison made of Henry’s memories. We see that Max travelled back in time to 1953 inside Henry’s memories when he was in high school, as she was trying to find her way back to her world and back to her friends.
So, it is clear from the commotion all over the internet that Stranger Things Season 5 is easily one of the most anticipated shows of 2025, and Netflix is fully aware of this. This is the reason why they are not releasing all episodes at once and are instead going with a 3-volume release on November 26, 2025, December 25, 2025, and the last instalment of episodes on December 31, 2025.
