Epic Games just released the 40.10 update for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, bringing the annual April Fools event to the Battle Royale island. This time around, the developers have not only added a Fortnite big head update, but also added the ability to ride on other players’ shoulders. If you are also looking to hitch a ride on another player, here’s everything you need to know about how to shoulder ride in Fortnite.
How to Shoulder Ride in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2
You can shoulder ride in Fortnite April Fools update by using the new Shoulder Ride Social Interaction emote in the game. Since Epic has to balance this fun, new mechanic, players have to invite another player to ride before the latter can hop on. Here are the steps you can follow to shoulder ride:
- Load into a Fortnite match with a duo, trio, or squad.
- Once you are on the island, open your emote wheel (Down on the D-Pad on controller and B on PC).
- Navigate to the Social Interactions section of the emote wheel in the far right of the wheel.
- Select the Shoulder Ride emote to invite your Fortnite teammate for a ride.
- The player who wants to ride needs to press the Interact button (Square/X on controller and E on PC) when standing next to you to hop on your shoulder.
You don’t have to worry about purchasing the Shoulder Ride emote from the Fortnite Item Shop, as it will automatically appear in your library when you load into a match.
While this mechanic does not provide much of a gameplay advantage in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, it seems like the perfect way to complement the Fortnite big head update.
However, it is important to remember that the player doing the carrying will not be able to use any Fortnite weapons. It will be up to the rider to protect both players during a Fortnite shoulder ride. The rider, however, can open chests and ammo boxes and also shoot their weapon while riding.
Additionally, players can take shoulder riding to a whole other level while riding a Loot Llama, another new addition in the Fortnite big head update.
This mechanic will only be available for 24 hours, from April 1, 2026, at 5:30 AM ET to April 2, 2026, at 5:30 AM ET. However, Fortnite dev Ted Timmins has hinted at the feature sticking around past its assigned time if players like it enough.
