One of the biggest additions in the new Minecraft ‘Chase the Skies’ drop is the Happy Ghast, a cute flying mob that allows air travel for you and your friends. However, this mob is not simply found in the wild. Instead, you must slowly nurture them to adulthood before you can take to the skies and explore your world. Sounds exciting? Check out this guide to learn how to get Happy Ghast in the latest Minecraft update right here.
Step 1: Get a Dried Ghast Block
As mentioned, happy ghasts cannot be found naturally roaming around in Minecraft. The process begins with a dried ghast, a new type of block found in the Nether. We suggest you equip a good set of gear so you don’t die when you go out exploring the Nether for this block.
Dried ghast blocks are only found in the soul sand valleys of the Nether dimension, and mainly around the fossils with a 33.3% chance of spawning.

There are other ways to get a dried ghast block, like crafting and bartering with Piglins. We have mentioned the specifics of how they work in the guide linked above.
Step 2: Turn Dried Ghast into a Ghastling
Having obtained a dried ghast block, it is time to water it, literally!
Place the dried ghast block on the ground and grab a water bucket. Equip the water bucket and press the right mouse button on the dried ghast block to submerge it in water. This will waterlog the entire block, thereby drowning it.

Don’t worry, though, as that’s what we need to do to turn the dried ghast into a ghastling. With the dried block surrounded by water, you only need to wait about 20 minutes. Just be patient and watch the magic happen. The dried ghast will smile after the said time and emerge as the ghastling, which is a friendly version of the ghast.
3. Nurture the Ghastling
Now you must wait another 20 minutes for this Minecraft mob to grow completely. However, you can speed up the process by feeding the ghastling snowballs. If you don’t want to wait around, you can feed the ghastling a total of 64 Snowballs to turn it into a happy ghast instantly.

All Uses of Happy Ghasts in Minecraft
There you have it, you will now have a Happy Ghast that you can use to ride around. This cute mob can accommodate four players and fly them together in the sky. You can even carry them anywhere by attaching them to a boat with a lead.
However, to ride these creatures, you will require a harness that can be crafted using 3 leather blocks, 2 glass blocks, and 1 wool block. You can make a harness and equip it on the mob to ride it with your friends. These mobs fly at a height and need to be tethered to keep them from floating to random locations. For that, we suggest making a Happy Ghast station in Minecraft.

Furthermore, happy ghasts can be used to transport mobs all across the world. Either attach one end of the lead to a livestock mob and the other to the ghast, or use a happy ghast and a boat with a lead to carry mobs. This way, you can carry two villagers on a boat and make a villager trading hall around your base, or carry the heavier mobs that couldn’t be done previously.
So, that’s all you need to know about how to get a happy ghast in Minecraft and ride it in the game. Have you ridden these creatures yet? Let us know in the comments below!
