The Minecraft Summer Drop is finally here and adds some cute-looking mobs to the already diverse blocky world. Although we already have ghasts in the Nether dimension, those are hostile creatures that throw fireballs at us. But the Minecraft ‘Chase the Skies’ drop lets players bring the small dried ghast blocks from the Nether and nurture them into something more. But, as is evident, our journey begins with the block itself. So, check out this guide to learn the three different ways to get the dried ghast in Minecraft 1.21.6.
Dried ghasts are small, grumpy-looking blocks, only found in the Nether dimension in the Minecraft ‘Chase the Skies’ update. So it might be a little tricky if you have just created a new world and there’s no ruined portal nearby.
Once you find a ruined portal, get some obsidian, a flint and steel to light the portal, and enter the Nether world. Once there, you can obtain the dried ghast block in Minecraft using the following three ways:
- Collect Dried Ghast by breaking the block
- Craft the Dried Ghast block
- Barter with Piglins to get Dried Ghast
How to Find Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft
Dried ghast blocks naturally spawn in the Soul Sand valleys in the Nether dimension. You can find these valleys anywhere in the Nether, except around the Warped Forest biome in Minecraft 1.21.6. They comprise mainly the soul sand and soul soil blocks, which are greyish brown.

Once you spot these valleys, you will soon find white Nether fossils there. As you go near them, the dried ghasts will be poking out in between the bone blocks. Do remember to search for these fossils first because there’s a 33.3% chance of the dried ghast blocks spawning here.
Now, you can collect these blocks by either breaking them with your hand or using any tool. Do note that you should be careful of the skeletons here, as they shoot arrows at you. So, we recommend that you carry a shield during this adventure.
How to Craft Dried Ghast Block in Minecraft
The second way to obtain the block is to craft the dried ghast. You require some basic materials that can be found in the Nether.
For the dried ghast crafting recipe, you’ll need 8 ghast tears and 1 soul sand Block. The former can be obtained by killing the ghasts, while the latter is readily available in soul sand valleys.
Once you have the items, make a crafting table and place the collected items, as shown below. The soul sand block will go in the center with the ghast tears surrounding it. You’ll get one dried ghast block using this process.

How to Get Dried Ghast by Bartering with Piglins
The final way to get a dried ghast block in Minecraft 1.21.6 is by bartering with Piglins in the Nether dimension. You will find Piglins all over this harsh place. However, ensure you are wearing at least one piece of gold armor. This will make you blend in and avoid any fights.
To barter with a Piglin, all you need are gold ingots, which you can find in the Overworld and the Nether. Throw a piece of gold ingot before the Piglin, and they will pick it up to examine it.

A few seconds later, they will throw a resource item towards you. There is a meager 2.13% chance that this item will be a dried ghast block. As you can see, the chances are slim. So, if you want to get a ghast block, then we recommend sticking to the two methods above.
That’s how you get a dried ghast block in the Minecraft Summer Drop 2025. Watering these ghast blocks will turn them into happy ghasts. So, have you tried getting this sad creature and converting it into a happy ghast yet? Let us know in the comments below!
