Gege Akutami has left Yuji’s immortality a mystery in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. But we are already aware of the facts that made him a near-immortal in JJK: Modulo. Yes! Yuji isn’t completely immortal in the JJK series, as he recently mentioned that he will be around for only 300 more years in the Modulo manga. This confirmed that Yuji has an extended lifespan in the Jujutsu Kaisen series, and it has to do with his body.

In case you forgot, Yuji was born as a result of Kenjaku’s experimentation, and his purpose was to be a vessel. After becoming Sukuna’s vessel, Ieri Shoko stated that Yuji is now close to a cursed object brimming with cursed energy rather than a human. On top of it, Yuji also went on to consume the remaining six Death Painting wombs to obtain the Blood Manipulation technique in JJK.

As you can see here, Yuji has transcended from a normal human being to a cursed object that extends his life span automatically. Now, Yuji is very similar to his brother Choso, and let’s not forget that Choso was alive for 150+ years. It is the most plausible reason why Yuji has an unusually long lifespan.

Yuji is already 83-84 years old in Modulo, and he confirmed he will live on for another 300 years. That is exactly why Yuji appears to be a young man even now and will continue to slowly age over time. Think of Frieren’s age from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. She is over 1000 years old, but still appears like a young mage because elves have a longer life span and age at a slower rate. Yuji also appears to be the same case as he is a half-death painting and Sukuna’s vessel, which has lengthened his lifespan.

At the beginning of the main JJK series, Yuji’s grandpa wished for Itadori not to end up alone like him. He wanted his grandson to help people around him and die surrounded by people that he loved. However, Yuji has become near-immortal in the series and has begun to outlive the majority of his friends and family.

He has already lost his friends like Megumi Fushiguro and Hana Kurusu, at this point, and the death of his loved ones began to take a huge toll on his mind. Loneliness always follows the strongest in Gege’s works, and history just repeated in JJK: Modulo with Itadori Yuji. In the end, Yuji did fulfill half of his grandpa’s wish, but couldn’t achieve the latter half as his near-immortality has become his curse.

Therefore, Gege’s choice to bless Yuji with a longer lifespan isn’t just a simple buff he has given to his character here, but a curse if you carefully examine his story. But Yuji will use his extended lifespan to help people by eliminating the last remaining curses that will emerge in the future.
