Tired of your Xbox’s limited Game Pass catalog and looking to game on your phone for a change? But, don’t want to get rid of the controller your hands are so used to? Well, you can still use your reliable Xbox controller to play mobile titles. All you have to do is simply connect the Xbox controller to your iPhone or Android device. If you don’t know how, don’t worry, for we have outlined the in-depth steps to go about it! Read on.

Before we get into showing you the steps, it’s essential for you to know that not all Xbox controllers have Bluetooth. As a result, these controllers will not work in wireless mode, and will solely connect via a USB cable. Xbox controllers that have Bluetooth will have the Xbox button etched into the controller’s faceplate itself. Those that don’t have a smaller faceplate with the bumper extending to the top and the Xbox button is placed on the bumper instead.

Connect Xbox Controller to iPhone or Android

The process of connecting your Xbox controller to your Android or iOS device is pretty much the same.

  • First, turn on your Xbox controller by pressing the Xbox Home button once. The white light within the button will start blinking.
  • On your Xbox controller, at the very top, you will see the single pairing button on the bumper.
  • Long press this button to enter pairing mode on your controller. Your controller’s Xbox button will start blinking rapidly in pairing mode.
  • Then, on your Android phone, head over to the Bluetooth devices panel and look for “Xbox Wireless Controller”.
  • Tap on it and in the Bluetooth pairing request window, hit Pair.
  • That will instantly connect your Xbox controller to the Android device, and the Xbox button light will go from flashing to solid white.

However, unlike when connecting a PS5 controller to your iPhone or Android device, the controller’s Home button’s lighting does not change accordingly and stays a solid white. The good thing is that the controller appears under the same name in the Bluetooth devices panel, unlike the PlayStation controllers. So, that’s one less hassle.

Now, all you have left to do is head over to your favorite mobile games and play them using the controller. Most games instantly detect a controller, with CoD Mobile also offering a dedicated controller selection menu in the lobby itself.
