Andre wanted to get everyone out of there, and when he saw exposed metal pipes, he thought he could use them to help everyone break out. However, those pipes were sealed off in concrete while Andre, Jordan, and Emma were trying to escape.
In a desperate attempt, Andre tried to move a massive steel door, but couldn’t. Since he has the same medical issue as his father, Neural Micro-Tears, which damages his brain every time he uses his powers, the overexertion of his magnetic abilities sent him into a stroke, which eventually killed Andre.
Andre, similar to his father Polarity, was susceptible to a brain stroke if he used his powers to limit. However, he did not care for himself and sacrificed himself to save Emma and Jordan.
