Honor 8X Camera Samples: Daylight, Low Light, Portrait Mode and Selfies

Honor 8X Camera Samples

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is all set to launch the Honor 8X in India later this month and we recently got the opportunity to test out the device ahead of its launch. The upcoming Honor 8X packs in a Kirin 710 chipset coupled with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, placing it well within the parameters for a mid-range smartphone – see our first impressions.

Much like most other mid-rangers in the market today, the Honor 8X also features an impressive dual camera setup on the back with a rather powerful selfie shooter up front. If you’re interested in the specifics, the Honor 8X’s dual camera setup comprises of a 20MP f/1.8 lens coupled with a 2MP lens for depth perception, whereas up front it features a 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.

On paper, the camera seems pretty capable, especially because of the wide variety of software features that Honor has included in the camera app. But if you’ve been wondering how the device actually fares in the camera department, you’ve come to the right place.

We’ve compiled some camera samples clicked using the Honor 8X and before we deliver our final verdict on the camera performance in the full review of the device, here’s a sneak peek at what the camera is capable of:

Honor 8X Camera Samples

  • Artificial Light and Daylight Shots

Here are some images we clicked using the Honor 8X in good lighting conditions. As you can probably tell from looking at the images, the Honor 8X is capable of taking some great shots in good lighting conditions with a decent amount of detail. The images we’ve included here don’t even make use of the AI camera features, which is pretty great in itself.

  • Low Light Shots

The Honor 8X is also capable of capturing some great low light shots, provided you have very steady hands. The device takes a bit of time to sharpen and process low light images, but if done right the images turn out great. However, our experience of clicking low light images with the device was a bit hit and miss. Check out these samples and see for yourself:

  • Portrait Shots

Using the 2MP lens for depth sensing, the Honor 8X is capable of taking some great portrait shots. The background blur looks a little artificial, but the edge detection is decent and the photos look quite nice overall. Just take a look at these sample images which give use a preliminary look at the Honor 8X’s portrait mode performance:

  • Selfies

The 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter on the Honor 8X is also pretty capable when it comes to clicking selfies in good lighting conditions. The images have a decent amount of detail and good color reproduction, but I can’t really say that for selfies captured in low-light.

Portrait mode selfies look pretty okay, but there isn’t as much detail in them as the ones captured by the rear cameras. Here are a few sample shots taken by the front facing camera:

Our final verdict on the Honor 8X’s camera performances, along with all of its other features and specifications is coming soon. So stay tuned to our coverage of the device.
