Will Animals Have Rarities in GTA 6?

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will feature animal rarities similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, including Legendary creatures that players can look for.

You’ll also be able to study and interact with some of the animals in the game, as seen in the GTA 6 Extended Look when Jason pets the dog at the beginning.

Hunting and fishing will be activities in GTA 6, so expect an animal compendium like Red Dead Redemption 2, which you need to presumably complete to 100% the game. Regions like GTA 6’s Mount Kalaga National Park or Port Gellhorn will likely feature multiple wildlife variations and species that you can hunt.

For comparison, RDR 2 features 178 animal species in total, so Rockstar will probably top that with GTA 6’s massive ecosystem. They will likely cross the 200 animal mark when the game launches on November 19, 2026, but Rockstar is silent on how many animal species exactly are in GTA 6.

Can You Have Pets in GTA 6?

Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed whether players can own pets in GTA 6. However, at the end of the second GTA 6 trailer, when Lucia lies down on Jason in his safehouse during a cutscene, we can see a snake enclosure on the left, which means they do own a pet snake.

As we mentioned before, the studio hasn’t confirmed whether players can own pets in GTA 6, so for now, pets appear only in cutscenes.

We have already seen Jason pet a dog in the GTA 6 Extended Look, so it won’t be surprising if Rockstar integrates a system where you can own and care for a pet. Previous GTA games didn’t include this mechanic, despite Franklin owning a pet Rottweiler, Chop, in Grand Theft Auto 5.

The fact that you can throw dog poop at GTA 6’s NPCs is more of a reason to believe that the developer is indeed adding a pet system in their upcoming open-world title. A former Rockstar developer also recently revealed that GTA 6 could have a pet tiger mission, further fueling hopes among players wishing for a pet system in the game.

However, Rockstar hasn’t revealed or confirmed any further details yet, though the studio has emphasized its research into GTA 6’s wildlife and the unique animations it has developed for different animals.
